ANNE-SOPHIE STEINLEIN: ƈYouScribe has the richest African content that exists on digitalƉ
Youscribe, the 100% digital pocket library is deployed in Guinea. It was last January edition that it was formally launched in our country. But the 14th of the 72 hours of the book which has been held since this Saturday, April 23, gives the opportunity to present it to the general public. With the aim of bringing the book as close as possible to readers, YouScribe, beyond digital, sets up a particularly suitable payment model. But what specific offers does it offer Guinean readers? How does it work with publishers and what place do authors occupy in its system? To answer all these questions,Ledjely.com met with Youscribe's Operations Department, Anne-Sophie Steinlein.
For those of our readers who hear about it for the first time, what is the ''Youscribe'' digital library?Youscribe is a platform with over a million digital content. Content made up of digital books, digital audio-books and educational documents, all included in the same offer, like a physical library where you have a reader card to borrow a book. There, as part of the app, one can read anything one wishes to read with a single subscription.
Why this orientation towards digital? We think that digital is really a chance to give more accessibility to reading. We know that the book is often too expensive. The book is not very accessible, there are very few libraries, there are very few bookstores and when there are, often the price is not appropriate. Digital alreadymakes itpossible to answer a firstquestion, that related to the deficit of bookstores. Then, the digital book is accessible to all pockets, all laptops even with computers and tablets. Finally, the second question is the means of payment. Also, digital makes it possible to find an appropriate price based on a balance between the fair remuneration of publishers and authors at the same time a fair price for the reader so that it is not too expensive for him.
So, a way to facilitate access to books?Absolutely. This is the primary goal of Youscribe. Give easier access to an infinite number of resources, especially Guinean and African, but also international.
How might a Guinean reader be interested in Youscribe's resources? We are already in partnership with Guinean publishers including Harmattan Guinea and Gandhal editions. Others have also joined the offer. Titles from these publishers are available in the offer. Besides, there is a lot of educational content for students. We think that everyone wants to succeed and to succeed you have to have the method. There is how to learn a business plan, how to learn this subject, how to become better in mathematics. So many resources available on the Youscribe digital library.
And the authors, what place do they occupy in the device of ''Youscribe''?The authors are at all levels of the system. They are the origin of everything. Without them, there would be no Youscribe. Youscribe remunerates the publishers who, in turn, remunerate the authors. Finally, we are a kind of very beneficial circle where the reader through his reading will choose how the income will be paid since we share everything we receive as Youscribe with our partner publishers. We pay them 60% of all our income. And then that revenue is split based on what readers actually read on the platform. And so the authors, they are the beginning and the end.
The credo of your library is facilitating access to books. How does this ambition translate? It translates concretely through a partnership with Orange and Digital Virgo which allow us to build a suitable means of payment. Accessibility goes through the number, through interesting content but also and above all through an appropriate medium. It is not a bank card. We all know that the bank card is not a means that is suitable. On the other hand, what can be interesting is the means of payment by telephone credit. Today our partnership with Orange and Digital Virgo enables us to do this. That is to say, to offer our readers to pay with their phone credits to access the platform. And all this by subscribing via the USSD code.
edition You are in Guinea as part of the 14th of the 72 hours of the book. In concrete terms, how does ''Youscribe'' participation in this literary event translate? It is already reflected in our presence at the show. We also have round tables, meetings with publishers. The objective of our visit is already to announce the launch of Youscribe in Guinea since January. Many readers have already joined the offer but we are taking advantage of the 72 hours of the book to tell young people, young people and all readers who want to access titles, that it is now possible for less . For example, for 2000GNF/day. It is also an opportunityto tellpublishers that with Youscribe, theyhave the opportunity to promote the works of their authors beyond borders. We are also present in 10 countries on the African continent. So, joining the Youscribe offer also means giving the possibility of being read in Abidjan, Douala and everywhere.
How many publishers are already registered in the platform? We now have a total of 1,400 publishers who have entrusted us with their offer, more than a million pieces of content on the platform. And among these 1409 publishers precisely, several hundred African publishers. We have the richest African content that exists in digital within the same offer. And we are very proud of it.
What are your expectations from the 72 hours of the book in Guinea?
We are very happy to be here already to show readers that a solution exists. Likewise, we are equally happy to be able to use the opportunity to present our offer to Guinean publishers and authors.
