Brazil submitted to Ukrainian authoritiesUSD 4.5 billionworth of investment proposals. "We want to build the mini-tractors production plant in Ukraine as well as purchase shipbuilding and pharmaceutical manufacturing technology," said José Barouki, director of trade and investment company Daruvar S.A. during the Ukrainian investment roadshow in São Paulo, Brazil.
According to the Advisor to the President Brazilian Development Bank D. Rodriguez,Ukraine could become a very interesting platform for Brazilian investors, especially given the strategic location of Ukraine. The Bank will consider investing into National Projects of Ukraine.
Ukraine's roadshow for investment opportunities, which started onSeptember 26, 2012, will take place in 15 financial and economic centers around the world. The objective is to promote investor opportunities of the Europe's second largest country including its National Projects: "LNG-terminal", "Open World", "Clean City", "Technopolis", "Industrial parks", "City ring road" as well as agricultural projects.
InMay 2012, Brazil state pharmaceutical group Farmanguinhos/Fiocruz signed a purchase contract with Ukrainian insulin producer Indar for 3.5 million vials of genetically engineered human insulin. The Brazilian experts stated that they chose their Ukrainian partner based on quality of their product. Ukraine and Brazil also have a preliminary agreement to establish bilateral insulin production in Brazil using Ukrainian technology by 2014.
Brazil is Ukraine's largest trade partner in Latin America. Bilateral trade cooperation between the tw o countries includes such areas as gas transporting equipment, ships, and planes. Additionally, two countries trade energy, metallurgy, agricultural machinery, electric welding, geological exploration, oil and gas pipe construction, IT, and pharmaceuticals.
The most notable aspect of the Ukraine-Brazil cooperation at the moment is the Alcantara Cyclone Space project. The binational platform is financially beneficial for the parties due to its close proximity to the equator (2°17S 44°23W). The cost of rocket launch from this location is 20 percent less than average.
In 2011, Ukraine exported to Brazil goods worthUSD 472.6 millionwhich is 31 percent more than in 2010, reported the Ukrainian state statistics service. Brazilian export to Ukraine, on the other hand, amounted toUSD 543 millionin the same year, demonstrating 18 percent growth compared to 2010.
