Theme 2 ISSN 1013-3402 Economy and finance Series Β Short-term statistics Consumer price index PRICES: EU ANNUAL INFLATION STABLE AT 2.7% IN APRIL 1996 For the third consecutive month the annual inflation rate for the EU as a whole remained stable at 2.7% in April, the same as in February and March 1996. A year ago, in April 1995, the corresponding rate was 3.2%. The index for EUR 15 rose by 0.4% between February and March. Over the month there were marked increases in the index of Greece (+1.3%), in Portugal (+0.9%), in the United Kingdom (+0.7%), in Spain (+0.6%), and in Italy (+0.5%). There were small to moderate increases in Denmark and Luxembourg (+0.3%), in Belgium ,France, Finland and Sweden (+0.2%), in Germany and in the Netherlands (+0.1%). The result for Austria was not available at the closing date of this report.
