Nitrile and Chemical resistant Gloves/Heavy Duty(opposite) Coverall protective clothing (Opposite) Wire Brushes Sanding Paper Applicators/Brushes or Sprayers Paint Decant Bucket Plastic Goggles First Aid Kit Injury caused by a HEALTH AND SAFETY REQUIREMENTS nail A site assessment is done first to find out if there are any hazards around the work area; this might include moving or removing any dangerous plants or potential obstructions. Nails in an existing fence must be made safe and any plants or visible cables tied back or moved due to risk of rupture from digging equipment. Gloves should be worn for preparation of the fence and chemical resistant gloves and coveralls/masks worn to treat the fence A product’s guidance should be followed, for a spirit or solvent based product that is subject to COSHH (control of substances hazardous to health) this should be adhered to. METHOD Assess fence or surface then clean with wire (stiff) brush to remove debris Use sandpaper working with the grain of the wood After cleaning see what needs repairing Choose the correct product for the fence and see if a product has been used previously Note that if a wax based product was used already a water based product cannot be used over it Decanting Always put on your Protective clothing before you get to the site, leather gloves are worn to assess fence and PVC buckets for gloves to apply any Product. Take note of ground conditions to see if they are level, clear any obstacles, to treat fence fence make sure the surface of the fence is properly cleaned and smooth before applying product. Product (eg treatment Cuprinol) should be decanted into paint kettle (bucket) this preserves the rest of the product and makes sure it is not contaminated with debris. New fences may need a Knotting compound to halt the rotting Of Knots in the fence. Clear up afterwards making sure the brushes or applicators are cleaned according to wether they are spirit, oil or water based.
