Vingtième Siècle. Revue d'histoire - Année 1994 - Volume 42 - Numéro 1 - Pages 52-65The women's vote and the end of French exceptionalism, Odile Rudelle. The years 1946-1983 were, with respect to suffrage, a period of dynamic difference between genders. In the contexts of Liberation, decolonization, and post cold war, this difference weighed in favor of republican constitutionalism. An analysis of the four elections which registered a significant difference between men and women (1946, 1965, 1974, and 1981) shows that the female electorate may have sought the modernization of French politics rather than the narrow conservatism feared by the opponents of women's suffrage. 14 pages Source : Persée ; Ministère de la jeunesse, de l’éducation nationale et de la recherche, Direction de l’enseignement supérieur, Sous-direction des bibliothèques et de la documentation.
