Learn More About Brazil Wax
Brazil wax (or Carnauba wax, or even palm wax, to use some of its various names) is a phrase you will often find bandied around on car and automotive related websites. At first glance carnauba appears to be the holy grail of waxes, however many automotive enthusiasts appear to be completely unaware of exactly why this product is so useful. Carnauba wax is stripped directly from the leaves of the copernicia prunifera palm tree. After the leaves have been collected they are thoroughly beaten in order to force flakes of carnauba to drop from the leaves. These carnauba wax flakes are then collected and they can be sold as is or processed into a purer form and bleached to remove any impurities.
Aside from being used as a high quality car wax carnauba has many other uses as a polish. Many floor and furniture polishes feature carnauba (often mixed with beeswax and turpentine), and instrument polishes often also contain varying amounts of carnauba. Even some shoe polishes feature the wax in order to give shoes a deeper and more luxurious shine.
The cosmetics industry are major users of carnauba wax; they utilise it as both a thickener in products such as lipstick and liquid eyeshadow, and it is also utilised as an emollient in various foundations and moisturisers. Interestingly carnauba wax has even found a place in the confectionary industry where it coats many of the sweet treats you will find on the high street.
The reason carnauba is so effective as a polish is due to its very high content of fatty acid, in som e circumstances this can be as high as 85%. It is also made up of fatty alcohols, acids and hydrocarbons, and these all exist in almost perfect quantities in the waxes natural form so very little refining is needed to turn it into high quality luxurious car wax.
Carnauba wax has a very high melting point amongst waxes, this makes it perfect for automotive uses as it can withstand relatively high temperatures that would result in other waxes melting away. Manmade synthetic alternatives to carnauba wax do exist, however the results can often prove to be less than
spectacular and may leave your vehicle looking rather dull and lifeless. One of the best Brazil waxes can be found atNew York Waxing Center.
