Thomas Kelly High School serves grades 9 through 12. During the 2009-2010 school year, there were

3,186 students enrolled at Thomas Kelly High School; 95.7% were low income, 11.4% were Special

Education and 12% were Limited English Learners. That same year, 86.4% of the student population was

Hispanic, and 7.9% was Asian. Enrollment is open to students living within the attendance area. Students

who live outside the attendance area may apply and their acceptance is based on the availability of space.

Kelly is a public high school that offers International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma and Metropolitan

Studies Honors programs. Kelly offers Advance Placement classes and in 2010, over 400 AP tests were

administered. Kelly also offers Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. In addition, Kelly offers

Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) and well regarded performing arts programs.

Students at Kelly have access to ACT/SAT prep courses, and college and career guidance. In addition,

Kelly offers classes for parents and community for technology, ESL and GED. Students can also

participate in extracurricular activities including clubs and athletic teams. Kelly High School hosts several

After School Matters (ASM) programs. The spring, 2011 ASM programs at Kelly High School include

Chess Club, Debate Apprenticeship, Flamenco Arts Apprenticeship, Lifeguard Apprenticeship, and

Sports37 Apprenticeship.

During the 2009-2010 academic year Kelly High School scored a 52.4% (up from 36.1% in 2007) on the

Chicago Public Schools Performance Policy, which means that the school is in Level 2 of 3 or “Good

Standing.”

As a result of this performance score, in the 2010-2011 school year Kelly is not on probation.

Kelly High School was on probation during the 2008-2009 and the 2009- 2010.
