Preferred LED Bulbs for homes
Interested in saving on your energy costs?
Thought you might be.
General Electric, after recently coming through with a thermal design breakthrough, has unveiled a 40-
watt LED bulb for use in everyday home lighting. A second breakthrough in design helped to spread out
the light from the normally unidirectional LED bulbs. A series of fins in the plastic casing containing the
bulbs disperses the light out from the bulbs. LED
energy saving bulbs
lights still don’t spread the light out
like fluorescent tubes, but they’re improving.
In some ways, LED bulbs are better than fluorescent lights. LED lights don’t have any mercury in them,
so they don’t emit that toxic metal if the bulb shatters, as fluorescent lights do. LED lights are vastly less
likely to shatter than fluorescent tubes, and they have a vastly longer lifespan.
LED's also perform much better than
fluorescent tubes
lights in cold conditions, so they work better
outdoors. LED's will also attain full brightness instantly, instead of having to warm up like most
fluorescent. And, unlike fluorescent, it doesn’t hurt LED's to turn them on and off frequently.
LED's work nicely for coloured lighting, because they don’t require coloured filters as incandescent or
fluorescent bulbs do. That, combined with their tiny size and low heat output, makes LED's an excellent
choice for indicator lights or Christmas lights.
The primary problems with LED's are their higher cost and their lower quality of light. However, in the
long run, LED's save you a lot of money over fluorescent. Not only do they save on your electric bills, but
they last far longer than fluorescent.
In the past two years, manufacturers have not only come up with regular household LED
g9 bulb
, but
also with various other types of bulbs. You can now buy damnable LED bulbs that allow you to adjust the
brightest to whatever level you like.

LED nightlight's have several very nice features. They don’t contain breakable filaments or glass, so
they’re nearly unbreakable. They hardly even get warm, so they don't pose a fire danger and are safe for
kids to be around. And leaving them on all night isn’t a problem, because they don’t draw much
electrical power and the bulbs won’t wear out for years.
But if you'd like even greater energy savings, you can purchase motion-sensing nightlight's that only light
up when someone gets close to them. Many LED night lights also automatically turn on when night falls
and off when daylight strikes them.
You can also get motion-sensing LED
lights for homes
. Outdoor LED lighting is one area where you can
really save a lot of electricity, because fluorescent lights, due to the fact that they perform poorly in cold
weather, aren’t suited for outdoor lights. Outdoor lights have, until now, chiefly been either halogen or
incandescent lights, both of which are energy-guzzlers. LED's are great for outdoor lights because they
do well in freezing weather and they reach full brightness immediately.
Most LED's supply a narrow beam of light, so they’re outstanding for spot or flood lights. This makes
LED's good for flashlights, especially since they don’t drain batteries quickly and are practically
indestructible. LED's are also good for camping lights.
