A reception in September served to welcome to the University Libraries a major new gift, the Dr. E. Conyers ’ryan r. Collection of inston S. Chrchill. Dr. ’ryan assembled this collection of the great ritish statesman’s writings, signed boos, artwor, and memorabilia over several decades. n his remars, he told a grop of library spporters abot his lifelong admiration for the person he char acteried as “the man of the centry” and the ways that admira tion prompted his collecting efforts. “oldn’t it be wonderfl,” he recalled thining, “if hndreds of people cold have the opportnity to see and se the things from this collection.” Dean of Libraries om cally, resident of the University arris astides, and University rstee Darla oore epressed appreciation to ’ryan for his generosity. resident astides reminded the adience of Chrchill’s renown as a writer as well as a statesman, and that he had been namedTimemagaine’s “an of the ear” three times in recognition of his mltiple talents. astides also pointed ot the research advantages of copling this new collection with the
