Theme 2 ISSN 1010-2779 Economy and finance Series Β ^¿L Short-term trends eurostat Consumer price index 11 D 1990 Monthly PRICES : Increase of 0.7% for EUR 12 in October; inflation rate over 12 months at 6.3% The consumer price index for the European Community as a whole, as calculated by Eurostat in Luxemburg, went up by 0.7% between September and October 1990. This marked growth for EUR 12 was the result of major increases in the CPI in most of the Member States. The most notable increases were recorded in Greece (+2.4%), Portugal (+1.1%), Luxemburg (+1.0%), Spain and Italy (both +0.9%), the United Kingdom (+0.8%), Belgium and the F.R. of Germany (both +0.7%). Lesser rises were registered only in France (+0.5%), the Netherlands ( + 0.3%) and Denmark (+0.2%). This increase of 0.7% for EUR 12 in October brought the rate of increase since the start of the Gulf crisis at 2.0% in 3 months (October 1990 compared with July 1990), whereas the inflation rate over 12 months attained 6.3% r 1990 d with October 1989).
