HandStory Suite 3.1 for PocketPC Tutorial HandStory Suite 3.1 is an easy-to-use, multi-function PocketPC/Windows information suite consisting of HandStory Converter on your Windows PC and HandStory Browser on your PocketPC handheld device. HandStory Suite 3.1 is an easy-to-use, multi-function PocketPC/Windows information suite consisting of HandStory Converter on your Windows PC and HandStory Browser on your PocketPC handheld device.
Use HandStory Converter to convert information, such as Web pages, text documents, and images, from your PC or the Internet and install it to your PocketPC device for viewing with HandStory Browser--anytime, anywhere.

Managing files
In List View, you can view the list of files, move files between categories, delete files, or change file details. Also in this view, you can access the program's main menu for finding text in all listed files, moving files from RAM to expansion memory and vice versa, updating Clips wirelessly, marking files for backup, marking files as read/unread, and setting preferences.
Renaming and deleting files
Let's try renaming a file.
1. Tap and hold the stylus on the title of a file in List view. When the file management pop-up menu appears, tapRename/Move.
 
2. In theRename/Movedialog box, edit the title and tapOK.
 
To delete a file, tap-hold the file's title in List View and then tapDeletein the pop-up menu. Tap Yesto confirm.
 
Filtering and sorting files
You can make the file list display only files of a specific type or in a specific folder; and you can sort files by type, name, size, or attributes.
To filter by folder, tap theFoldermenu above the file list and select a folder.  
 
To filter files by type, tap theTypeabove the file list and select a file type.menu
  -> appropriate column header to sort theYou can sort the file list by different criteria. Tap the list by type, name, size, or attributes. You can reverse-sort by tapping the same header again.
 Moving a file to a memory expansion card Let's try moving a file to a memory card. 1. Tap and hold the stylus on a file's title, and then tapRename/Moveon the pop-up menu.
 2. Tap theLocation drop-down box and selectStorage Card. The file will be moved to the memory card.
Viewing Clips
 
You can convert the contents of a Web site to a Clip, update it periodically using HandStory Converter, and view it on the road using HandStory Browser. You can download Clips from the HandStory Clip Service web site, or you can create your own custom Clips from virtually any Web site.
Downloading a Script Clip
HandStory supports four types of Clips: Direct Clip, Custom Direct Clip, Script Clip, and Login Script Clip. Let's look at how to download a Script Clip from the HandStory Clip service site:
1. Right-click the HandStory icon ( ) on the system tray of your Windows PC, point to HandStory Clip PageURL of the HandStory Clip service., and then click the
 
2. Select a Script Clip and click .
 
After Internet Explorer finishes downloading the Clip, theScript Clip Settingswindow will open automatically. Updating the Clip Now we'll configure a few settings for the Clip we just downloaded and then update it for the first time. Updating the Clip will download the content from the source Web site and convert it for viewing on the handheld device.
1. In the Clip Settings Script window, specify the mobile device user and the folder where the Clip will be saved.
 2. (optional) Select the following options: oImages: Select the number of colors for images in the Clip. Choose a lower number if you want to save memory space. To prevent downloading images, choose "Do Not
Convert Images". oTo Cardmemory card rather than built-in memory.: Select this to save the Clip on a oFast Clip: If you select this, the Clip content will be downloaded in pre-converted form from the HandStory Clip Server, rather than from the source Web site, whenever you update the Clip. This results in faster updating, but you may not always obtain the most up-to-date version of the Clip content. 3. ClickOKname and details should now be visible on the list of Clips in the. The Clip's HandStory Converter - Manage Clipswindow. 4. To update the Clip, select it in the Clip list and clickUpdate.
 
Note: If the Clip you downloaded is a Login Script Clip, HandStory Converter will prompt you to enter your user ID and password for the source Web site.
 When HandStory Converter finishes updating the Clip, the Clip will be automatically installed on your Pocket PC device if the device is connected to your PC. Otherwise, the Clip will be installed the next time you connect your device.
In the future, you can quickly update a single Clip or all your Clips at once by right-clicking the HandStory tray icon ( ), pointing toUpdate Clips, and then clicking the name of the Clip you want to update orUpdate All Clips.
Setting an update schedule
 
By default, new Clips are set for manual updating, meaning you have to manually initiate the update process every time you want to update the Clip. If you want, you can set a Clip to be updated automatically according to a schedule.
1. Right-click the HandStory tray icon ( ) and clickManage Clips. TheHandStory Converter - Manage Clipswindow will appear.   2. Double-click the Clip you downloaded before and then clickUpdate Settings. 3. Select one of the following: oManually: The Clip will not be automatically updated. oEvery week: The Clip will be automatically updated on the selected day(s) at the selected hour. oEvery month: The Clip will be automatically updated once a month on the selected date at the selected hour.
4. ClickOK.
Viewing a Clip
 
Now, let's view the Clip we downloaded and updated. Before proceeding, make sure you have synced your Pocket PC device.
1. On your Pocket PC device, start HandStory Browser. 2. In List View, tap the name of the Clip. The Clip will open in Clip View.
  -> 3. Some Clips contain links to various pages in the Clip. To follow a link, just tap it. After following a link, tap to return to the page you were viewing before. Tap to jump back to the linked page. (These buttons work just like the Back and Previous buttons in a Web browser.) You can also tap to return to the first page of the Clip.
4. If your Pocket PC device is connected to your desktop PC, you can update the current Clip with the latest content from the Internet by tapping . 5. You can access more functionality through the menus at the bottom of the screen. For more information about the menus, refer toHandStory Suite 3.1 Help. 6. To view or change settings for Clip View, tapToolsand then tapOptions.
Viewing Text Files
 
HandStory makes it easy to save selected text on a Web page and convert it to a text file that you can view on your handheld using HandStory Browser.
Converting text from a Web page for handheld viewing
Let's try saving some text in Internet Explorer and converting it to a text file on the Pocket PC device.
1. Open a Web page in Internet Explorer and select some text in it. Right-click the selected text and clickSave To Pocket PC.
 2. In theHandStory Converter - Textwindow, specify the mobile device, setTypeto "Text", and choose the folder in which to save the text file. Also give the file a title in theTitlebox.
 
3. If desired, selectTo Cardto save the text file on a memory expansion card instead of your device's built-in memory. 4. (optional) You can edit the text in the large text box below theTitlebox. You can also copy more text from Internet Explorer or another source and then clickAppendto add it to the end of the existing text. 5. ClickConvert.
The text file will be automatically installed on your Pocket PC device if the device is connected to your PC. Otherwise, the text file will be installed the next time you connect your device.
Viewing the text file
1. Open HandStory Browser on your Pocket PC device. 2. In List View, tap the title of the text file you just saved. It will open in Text View.
->   3. Try searching for a word or phrase in the file. Tap , enter the text to find, and clickFind.
 4. You can jump to a specific page by tapping , specify the desired page number, and then tappingGo.
