Format and schedule:
The tutorial will include the following sections:
1. Introduction– this section will include an outline of the tutorial’s goal, collecting information about participants’ background, and an opening discussion on the main challenges to modern ILEs and why SW technologies can be used to address these challenges.
2. Overview of selected SW technologies related to ILEs– this section will give a brief review supported with relevant examples from existing ILEs.
3. SW and intelligent creation and management of educational contentfollowing the – previous overview, this section will focus on specific issues related to semantic structuring, annotation, and integration of content, (semi) automatic content extraction, and metadata generation. Appropriate examples of several tools will be given, accompanied by a demo of TM4L.
4. SW technologies for student modelling and adaptation– this section will give an overview of the use of ontologies for modelling users and making adaptation decisions, learner knowledge capture, and mapping between different conceptual user models. Appropriate examples of several tools will be given, accompanied by a demo of Confluence.
5. Closing discussion following the presented demos, this section will further discuss the potential and challenges of SW technologies for intelligent content creation and management, and for student modelling and adaptation. The tutorial will be closed with a brief discussion of future research directions in Semantic Webbased ILEs.
