- CS3 = one artboard – create rectangles same size as artboard -> move onto artboard
- CS4 = 2 ways to arrange artboards:
1. New document -> number of artboards -> spacing (save = in chronological order) or
2. Artboard tool -> Alt (copy) + Shift (ortho)
- Setup…
- Window -> Workspace -> Automation
- File -> Document Color Mode -> CMYK Color - printers
- View -> Smartguides (Control + U)
- View -> Snap to Point
- Window -> Extensions -> Kuler
- search
- save swatches to swatch menu -> click on file icon in swatch menu to edit
- Importing images…
- File -> Place – drop down of image types.
- placing links to images – you can edit original and update
- embed – breaks link
- Scaling…
- grab a corner anchor point -> Shift -> drag – opposite corner stays
- grab any anchor point -> Shift + Alt -> drag – scales around center
- Repeat…
- repeat EXACTLY last operation – Shift + D (copy picture OR create line hatch)
-Selecting…
- select by fill and/or stroke – Select -> Same -> Fill & Stroke
- Cropping…
- create a box (frame – everything outside of frame disappears) – make sure box is on top of
image -> select both image & box -> Object -> Clipping Mask -> Make (Control + 7) – can still
move clipping mask – double click image to move image
- do with text
- use multiple boxes
- make boxes -> select all boxes -> right click -> Make Compound Path -> Control
+7
- crop lines with clipping mask or Scissors Tool
- Align…
- draw lines – Window -> Align -> select lines -> Vertical Align Bottom -> Horizontal Distribute
Center
- Blending….
- create two boxes different colors – no outlines -> set options -> Object -> Blend Options ->
select both boxes -> Object -> Blend
- Live Trace…
-
Line image
: Place image -> make colored box -> place image over colored box -> select image
-> Live Trace dropdown -> Tracing Options -> click “Preview” box -> leave on “default” - notice
white -> select dropdown Detailed Illustration -> increase threshold -> Trace -> can still edit –
Object -> Live Trace -> Tracing Options
- Live Paint: select object -> Object -> Live Paint -> Make -> select Live Paint bucket ->
click – notice swatches on cursor
- make a box out of lines with a small opening -> Object -> Live Paint -> Gap Options ->
Large Gaps
-

(around 20 mm or so) -> Wallpaper Options -> browse
- Setting and saving views – View -> Set View -> Name Views -> Save -> type in new view name
- Exporting graphics
- Export images from viewport – no surfaces only edges, isocurves and layer colors – Export ->
Select objects -> save as AI file
- Line drawings…
- Make2D -> select object to draw -> Enter -> check “show tangent edges” box -> ok -> View ->
Set View -> Export – when exporting perspective check “snapshot of current view” –
perspective lines are distorted so scaling will not work – it will work if no perspective (plan or
section etc.)
- Make 2D -> select object to draw -> Enter -> check “show hidden lines” box -> ok -> View ->
Set View -> Export
- capture screen with surfaces -> print to PDF -> to change quality – Adobe PDF Document
Settings -> Adobe PDF Settings -> Default Settings -> Edit -> change resolution/quality
- Sections…

CPlane back to top -> move cutting plane (use Tab to lock inference) -> type “Trim” -> select
cutting object -> trim one side
- using ArchCut toolbar = build model -> click Create Sections tool -> select objects to section ->
Enter -> place sections -> while still highlighted, type Move -> move sections
- multiple sections using ArchCut = build model -> click Create Array of Sections tool -> select

make all lines black
-> right click -
Make Compound Path
-> scale if necessary -> move
on top of rendering ->
copy lines
-> move of rendering -> right click ->
Release Compound Path
->
erase
lines except cut plane lines ->
increase stroke weight
-> move back over rendering ->
DONE
- Exploded Axon based on photograph + live painted…
- open Illustrator file ->
