Travaux de la Maison de l'Orient méditerranéen - Année 1996 - Volume 25 - Numéro 1 - Pages 177-186Education and labour market in Egypt and Syria In Egypt and in Syria, education has been a main concern of public policies during the sixties and the seventies. As a result, the number of graduates has grown much more rapidly than the real need of the labour market. That may be one reason why the symbolic value of degrees seems less and less related to their practical efficiency. The comparison of the two countries reveals nonetheless quite important differences in the educational demography, due to different heritage, whereas the consequences of the open door policy are already much more important in Egypt. 10 pages Source : Persée ; Ministère de la jeunesse, de l’éducation nationale et de la recherche, Direction de l’enseignement supérieur, Sous-direction des bibliothèques et de la documentation.
