The 8th edition of the European Communities Glossary (French - English)
was published by the Office for Official Publications of the European Commun­
ities in 1984. The Terminology Office of the English and Irish Translation
Division at the Council Secretariat, which produced that edition, has since
collected and processed a significant amount of new material. The purpose of
the present supplement to the 8th edition is to make this additional terminol­
ogy available immediately to users of the Glossary in the Community Institu­
tions.
Glossary users should note that this Supplement contains a number of en­
tries which improve or correct corresponding entries in the 8th edition to
which clear references are given in each case.
The Supplement contains, as an appendix, a comprehensive index to all
the titles of bodies such as Working Parties and Committees, or acts such as
Agreements and Conventions, contained in the main part of the work. The first
page of this appendix gives a key to the various abbreviations (e.g., "Ace"
for "Accord", "Csl" for "Conseil") used in the reference column of the index.
Acknowledgement is due to my fellow-translators in the English and Irish
Translation Division and in the Language Department in general for their much-
valued co-operation in the production of this volume. Special mention should
