Bulletin de l'Ecole française d'Extrême-Orient - Année 1993 - Volume 80 - Numéro 1 - Pages 215-220Jean-Luc Chevillard, The Classification of 'Nouns' according to Tamil Grammatical Tradition in Western Scholarship. Among the four parts of speech which are recognized by Tamil grammatical tradition, which starts with the Tolkāppiyam (beginning of the Christian era), prominence is given to peyar noun and vinai verbs. The description of peyar is heterogeneous, containing enumerations (mostly pronouns) but also some classifications, one of the classes often mentioned being that of iyarpeyar simple nouns. Compared to this variety, the description of vinai is more compact, the only complexity being due to the presence of a class of kurippu vinai notional verbs, which some Western scholars have called conjugated nouns. 6 pages Source : Persée ; Ministère de la jeunesse, de l’éducation nationale et de la recherche, Direction de l’enseignement supérieur, Sous-direction des bibliothèques et de la documentation.
