Manuscrits et éditions de la Crónica mexicáyotl La Crónica mexicáyotl est un important document historique nahuatl. Jusqu'à une date récente, il existait de ce texte une édition imprimée avec traduction ď Adrian Leon (1949) ainsi qu'une édition sur disquette de Thouvenot (1992). Ces deux éditions s'appuient sur un manuscrit conservé à la Bibliothèque nationale de France (mех. 311). Au début des années quatre- vingt, toutefois, un manuscrit plus authentique du même texte, de la main de Domingo Chimalpahin, a été découvert dans les fonds d'une bibliothèque britannique (BFBS, ms 374, vol. 3). Deux éditions de ce nouveau document ont été entreprises : la première, due à Anderson, Schroeder et al. , est parue en 1997 ; la seconde, due à l'auteur du présent article, n'a pas encore été publiée. Dans les lignes qui suivent, on tentera de faire une évaluation des différents manuscrits et éditions de la Crónica mexicáyotl afin d'orienter les chercheurs travaillant sur les

En el presente artículo, se hará una evaluación de los manuscritos y de las ediciones de la Crónica mexicáyotl con el fin de guiar a los investigadores que se interesan en los datos contenidos en este texto.
Manuscripts and editions of the Crónica mexicáyotl The Crónica mexicáyotl, an important historical document in the Nahuatl language, has been hitherto accessible in a printed edition and translation of Adrián Leon of 1949 and an electronic edition by Thouvenot published in 1992. Both are based on a manuscript in the Bibliothèque nationale de France (mех. 311). Since the early 1980s, however, a more authentic manuscript, in the handwriting of Domingo Chimalpahin was discovered in the holdings of a British library (BFBS, MS 374, vol. 3). Two editions of this newly found manuscript have been undertaken. In this paper all known manuscipts and editions of the Crónica mexicáyotl are evaluated as a guide for future scholars working with the information contained therein.

1 . Das Dokument Crónica mexicá yotl
1.1. Bestimmung des Dokumentes
Im Handschriftenband MS 374, vol. 3 der British and Foreign Bible Society 2 ist
auf den Blâttern 18r bis 63r ein fortlaufender Text geschrieben (Bilder 1 und2), dessen
Anfang formal durch den Beginn oben auf der recto-Seite eines Blattes und durch die
Gestaltung des Schriftbildes auf dieser Seite und inhaltlich durch Einleitungsformu-
lierungen als solcher gekennzeichnet ist. Sein Ende ist hingegen unmarkiert. Kein
Kolophon, keine Unterschrift oder Àhnliches schlieBen ihn ab.
Der folgende Text beginnt jedoch mit einem zentralen Kreuz als Anfangsmarke 3
und handelt ein anderes Thema ab, ist also formal und inhaltlich etwas Neues.
Dieses so als intentionale Abfassungseinheit isolierte Dokument ist das Zieldoku-
ment meiner Studie. Es wurde von der Forschung seit seiner ersten Beschreibung
durch Lorenzo Boturini Benaduci (1746) stets als solches erkannt und wird modern
als Crónica mexicáyotl (fortan : cmxy) bezeichnet 4. Dieser Name greift wórtlich eine
Formulierung des Dokumentes auf, die sich in Zeile 4 auf Seite 20r (Bild 2) des
Exemplars der Bible Society fmdet.
1.2. Inhalt und Typ des Dokumentes
Inhaltlich ist der erste Teil der cmxy dem indianischen Typ Wandersage zuzuord-
nen 5, wobei sie der Unterklasse der ereignisstrukturierten — im Gegensatz zur
zeitstrukturierten — Wandersage zugehórt. Denn die Geschichte der Wanderung wird
nicht durch ein fortlaufendes Band von Jahren, wie zum Beispiel im Codex Aubin
(Zensus, Nr. 13), zusammengehalten. Auch sind viele Ereignisse nicht datiert. Darin
ist sie dem Codex Azcatitlan (
