Revue des études slaves - Année 1991 - Volume 63 - Numéro 1 - Pages 9-18The first byzantine years of The Russian Primary Chronicle The Russian Primary Chronicle also known as Narratives of bygone years is the first writing which aims at telling chronologically what happened in Russia from the earlier times to the 12th century. For the l0th century the chronicler had no dated documents and borrowed most of his information from byzantine chronicles which used a chronology based on indiction. The Russian chronicler who wanted to give Russia a specific chronology reworked his sources and transfered their datation into years from Creation. This was often a difficult business which obliged the chronicler to interpret and adapt the byzantine data to another system. Explaining how he solved the problems he had to face the paper shows that the work was logically completed and that, undoubtedelly, The Russian Primary Chronicle was compiled by an unique author. 10 pages Source : Persée ; Ministère de la jeunesse, de l’éducation nationale et de la recherche, Direction de l’enseignement supérieur, Sous-direction des bibliothèques et de la documentation.
