Inside: ERASMUS in 'Art and design' erasmus newsletter Published for The Commission of the European Communities Task Force Human resources, education, training and youth by ERASMUS Bureau Vol· 1990-No. 8 His Holiness Pope John­Paul Upraises the Euro­pean Community's pro­grammes in education His Holiness Pope John­Paul II, in formally declaring open the new academic year at the University of Ferrara on its 600th anniversary (September 23, 1990), used the occasion to refer to the EC programmes in education and especially to ERASMUS. He praised the efforts of ¡he ERASMUS Advisory Committee (some of whose members are seen with the Pope in the photograph) which had chosen this occa­sion to meet at the University and ex­pressed his 'satisfaction at these Com­munity initiatives which led to the con­siderable development of higher learning... and pushed forward the process of (euro­pean) integration which has been the wish «\ of all for so long'.
