PoINT Publisher: Getting Started
1  System Requirements The following hardware and software is basically required: 1.  PC with Intel Pentium processor or any compatible processor, 2.  A CD ROM drive for installation, 3.  Microsoft Windows 2000 with Service Pack 3 or above, Win dows 2003, or Windows XP with Service Pack 1 or above, 4.  For detailed requirements concerning CPU, RAM, and hard disks, please refer to the actual values listed in the README.TXT file on your installation medium. Please note: Running other recording software in parallel to PoINT Publisher may cause initialisation and recording er rors. In some cases, other recording software replaces standard system components by incompatible versions at installation time. This may cause permanent failures of PoINT Publisher.
2  Installation Before You Install Please read the file README.TXT on your installation media first. It contains important information about system requirements, installa tion, restrictions, and additional fe atures of the current version of PoINT Publisher. The following installation sequence is recommended:  First connect the autoloader to your PC and, if the loader supports printing, install the device drivers for the disc printer. This proce dure is described in the documen tation delivered with your hard ware. 5.  Install PoINT Publisher, preferably on a local hard disk drive.
5
PoINT Publisher: Getting Started The Installation Process The PoINT Publisher installation CD includes an interactive installa tion program that installs all components of PoINT Publisher. Your login must have Administrator rights to run the setup program. 1.  Insert the CD in your CD ROM drive. If the setup program does not start automatically, perform the follow ing steps: 2.  Click on Start and then on Run. 3.  Type the following command in the Command Line box (replace Drive with the drive letter of your CD ROM drive): Drive :\SETUP < Enter > The welcome screen of the installation program appears. 4.  Click Install and follow the screen prompts to continue the instal lation. The installation process offers two options:   Server Installation   Client Installation The server installation is required on the computer to which the auto loader is connected. The client installation can be done on any other computer in the net work. However, usage of a client installation and the number of clients that can be used together with a PoINT Publisher server depends on the purchased license. For more information about licensing please re fer to section 3. Most recent information about requirements, supported hardware, and installation can be found in the readme files on the installation me dia. 3  D Starting PoINT Publisher - Server 1.  Click on the Start button to open the start menu.  2.  Click on Programs and then on Po INT Publisher. PoINT Publisher: Getting Started 3.  In the PoINT Publisher program gr oup, click PoINT Publisher on Server. This starts the program. Entering a License Key As long you have not entered a License Key, PoINT Publisher   Server will display a message box after starting the program, which indicates that an valid License Key has not been entered. The software will run without a License Key for 7 days with all functions and fea tures being enabled. Please refer to chapter 4 for information on how to get and how to enter the License Key. If after 7 days no valid License Ke y has been entered PoINT Publisher changes the functionality to the demonstration mode which means that the program can be started bu t recording of discs is disabled. Configuring PoINT Publisher - Server When you run PoINT Publisher Server the first time after installa tion you have to configure the software. Later on you may alter the configuration whenever this is necessary. PoINT Publisher stores and uses the current configuration until you change it. You may open the Device Configuration dialogue by command Set tings of the Configuration menu. When you start PoINT Publisher   Server for the first time, the dialogues are displayed automatically. 1.  Setup the connected hardware. 2.  Select recording speed and simulation mode (if required). Additional settings can be done in the General, Defaults and Auto loader dialogues. In Windows 2000/XP/2003 PoINT Publisher will automatically disable the Autorun function. You have to reboot the system to make the changes effective. The Autorun function is disabled in order to prevent Windows from starting recorded CDs automatically before they are unloaded from the recorders. Additional information can be found in the Online Help of PoINT Publisher. Setting up the connected Hardware To open the setup dialogues, click on the Setup button in the Device Configuration dialogue.

If several autoloaders are supported, a selection dialogue will appear from which the installed type of autoloader can be chosen. Press OK to confirm the selection. Then the autoloader specific setup dialogue will appear.

PoINT Publisher: Getting Started It displays the current settings. Th e layout of the dialogue may vary depending on the functionality of your specific hardware. For exam ple, some loaders do not use a serial port, others dont provide printing support. First you should define port and pr inter driver. Then you may specify your drives. To do that, select the number of groups (if applicable), click on the exact position of the drive (if applicable), and click on the Add button and select a drive from the opening list. Please note that PoINT Publisher needs to know th e exact position of drives in some loaders. Finally confirm your choice by clicki ng on OK. This will return to the Settings dialogue which shows the configured drives. The Test button should now finally be presse d to check the current settings.
The tests include checking the serial port, the communication with the loader, and the existence of the se lected drives(s). During the tests a disc will be loaded to and unloaded from all configured drives. This test must complete without errors . Otherwise PoINT Publisher will not work properly.

If you have setup an autoloader (not a CD R Tower) you will find this page in the Settings dialogue. In order to avoid wasting discs by a malfunctioning recorder, you can instruct PoINT Publisher to disable it after a certain number of fail ures that occurred in a row with this device. In case that a recorder is disabled, processing continues with the remaining recorders. Disabled recorders are automatically re enabled when you start the next pro duction cycle. This option is not av ailable in manually loaded tower versions. If you want to permanently disable a malfunctioning recorder, remove it from the configuration in the hardware Setup dialogue. For autoloaders with a disc printe r and a rotation function the next op tion is available. Jobs that requir e disc rotation to a marker before printing will be excluded from further processing when a certain limit of rotator errors occurred. Usually rotator errors are caused by discs that have no marker.

4  L The functionality of PoINT Publisher is controlled by a computer de pended License Key mechanism. The License Key enables the li censed functionality (e.g. supported autoloader, options) of PoINT Publisher. In case that a License Key is not part of the delivery of PoINT Pub lisher, you may find information on how to obtain the License Key in the separate Licensing Instructions. The License Key can be entered in th e License Key dialogue by the command License Settings of the C onfiguration menu. This dialogue may also be used to find out which options and extensions are enabled by your current license key.
