Ghosoun and her brother, Salem, live with their parents in peace and harmony, along with their loyal dog, Salfa. But with the sudden death of their mother, the children’s father marries another woman who quickly conspires with an evil crow to be rid of the children and faithful Salfa.  And so begins the children’s mysterious journey away from their home. But on a journey fraught with hardships, deceit, and magical enchantment, will Ghosoun and her brother ever live, once again, happily ever after?

A tale from 

Qatari Heritage







A time long ago, Ghosoun and her little brother, Salem, lived happy and carefree at home with their parents. They spent their days playing with their dog, Salfa, and their other friend, the peacock. The peacock would spread his colourful feathers to goad Salfa, and she would chase him up the old lotus tree.

“Salfa! Salfa!” the peacock would cackle.

Salfa barked back. 

Then the peacock would fly higher to the roof.

“Salfa! Salfa!” he teased again.

Indeed, they were wonderful days of joy and innocence.





One day, sadness descended upon Ghosoun’s small home when her mother fell ill. In a matter of days, the mother’s illness took her life. 

Ghosoun’s father did what he could to console Ghosoun and her brother Salem. Salfa seemed to cry along with them.
