To the vulnerable. People who had no choice during this pandemic but were forced to live with the deadly coronavirus and its variants. Those who asked for a time bound Zero Covid lockdown but got a flu plan with endless lockdowns. People with pre—existing conditions. The elderly who were deemed not worth serving. Those whose lives were deemed better dead than living. Countries that stood watching, shocked, angry but unable to do anything. Those used as guinea pigs in unlicensed human trials. Those kept away from hospitals during the pandemic when they needed help. Families kept apart. Those who died alone. To the school children who lost the vital early years of education and a start in life. Lives put on hold. Families ripped apart. Poor countries which lost out during vaccine nationalism and vaccine hogging. Millions suffering Long Covid. Those used as guinea pigs in unauthorized, hurried and unsafe mass vaccine trials. Those injected with unsafe vaccines. Those who died from vaccines. Those who missed out in vaccination programmes. Those who lost out in the race between vaccination and the surging variant infections. Families kept apart. Healthcare workers, key workers and other frontline workers. Those infected in hospitals. Those kept on waiting lists as national health services turned into the Covid Service. The immunocompromised. Those with underlying conditions. Those who lost years of education. Businesses that collapsed. Those who lost their jobs. Those who died needlessly before their time.

Why did it matter what happened to India? Because no one was safe until everyone was safe.
For people that said, ‘England had done it’, well, two wrongs don’t make it right.
Keeping the country’s borders open is what fueled this pandemic. Britain championed it. India didn’t keep its borders closed either.
When you tell the truth, people covering up things try to make an enemy of you.
In the end herd immunity against Covid was looking ever—increasingly impossible.
Instead of developing an immune response, people infected ended up with Long Covid.
The vaccinated who got infected became carriers and were transmitting the variants to the unvaccinated.
The World Health Organisation was horrified by countries following Britain’s example of allowing the deadly disease and the variants to spread through the population in an effort to achieve herd immunity.
Vaccination didn’t result in immunity because the vaccinated got infected and they also transmitted the Delta variant to the unvaccinated, meaning the vaccines did not create a barrier as hoped.
It soon became clear that COVID-19 was here to stay for as long as countries followed the UK in trying to live with Covid.
