Description

Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. In the following pages will be found a good deal of useful informa tion. Some of it is used in other fields and is to be found in photo graphic literature. It has never before been collected, however, in a treatise on press photography. I have endeavored to make this book the most complete text on press work available. Every formula pre sented herein has been tested again and again and is selected only because it has passed these tests with a higher rating than others.

CHAPTERI TH E PRE SS CAME RA
HE MOST important thing in press photography i s to get the picture The ability to do thi s comes from a broad ex that includes everything from an elementary knowl edge of photograw of l aphy to a smattering of the l seriesibel This of chapters is being written especially for amateurand professional cameramen who wish to become press photographers and to learn more about thei r chosen profession Many of my fri ends helped to teach me what I k ow about the technicaland practical sides of the business If it were not forthem such a bookas this would neverhave come into existence My obj ect to follow in succession the many paths upon which press photographers must tread during thei r experiences Some of the information givenShould be known to everyone who ever hasStepped inside a darkroom and forthat reason is included forthose who may not know i t Muchbeen written on the matterof cameras Their selection is largely a matter of personalCs buthoice in the f nal analysi there are certain features that should be included in every press camera Always remembers no perfect press cthat there i ame ra But there are some tha tare very nearly perfect I n the f rst place the press camera should be equipped with a first cl ass high speed anastigmatic lens This will be discussed i n detail in the following chapter What else should the press camera include E very photographer has his own opinions on this question but my idea of an ideal b ination would be something like the following It should be constructed yetShould be compact I t should accommodatea oodSized plate and should have a double or triple bellows extension high speedShutter a ndersgood sized lens board and dependable fi I t should permit the use of plates fi lms and film packs should allow of rapid focusin g and beSI timple in operation Should have a spring
