Structured around the Equality Act and written collaboratively, Diverse Educators: A Manifesto aims to capture the collective voice of the teaching community and to showcase the diverse lived experiences of educators.

The book is divided into ten chapters, one for each of the nine Protected Characteristics (Age; Disability; Gender Reassignment; Pregnancy and Maternity; Marriage and Civil Partnership; Race; Religion and Belief; Sex; Sexual Orientation) with a tenth chapter exploring intersectionality.

Framed in theory and interweaving personal and professional narrative from over 100 contributors, this ground-breaking text responds to current and historic debates, while remaining accessible and solutions-focused, with high-quality input on practice, pedagogy, people management and policy.

Each chapter shares provocations for the reader and for the school system on the changes we would collectively like to manifest in education.

This truly is a remarkable book. Given the plurality of perspectives, this book is beyond an essential read , but, in my view, must be categorised as a MUST READ for everyone connected with the education ecosystem. Not only does the reading of the entirety of this book empower the reader to imagine, empathise and understand an array of diverse experiences, but, by doing so, it supports the cognitive enactment of promoting understanding, tackling prejudice and the fostering of good relations between the Protected Characteristics from within. This is because the content of Diverse Educators makes visible those experiences which are often overlooked and made systemically invisible within education and society. When linked with the Equality Act 2010, the power of this book is realised because it demonstrates how, by thinking and working collectively, education is absolutely integral to the building of a fair and socially just society which includes everyone and leaves no one behind.

THE BEGINNING
Co-founding WomenEd nearly seven years ago, as a Deputy Headteacher in London, catapulted me into the education grassroots world. Our successful arrival quickly led to the birth of the network s siblings in BAMEed, LGBTed and DisabilityEd - four networks serving as affinity groups for each identity group in education and their allies. Around this time a lot of my network was involved in leading or contributing to the DfE s Equality and Diversity Grants, which was system funding that Teaching Schools could bid for to support existing and aspiring leaders from under-represented groups. A group of us came together and initiated the Diversity Roundtables around this time to forge connections and collaborations across different individuals and organisations working in the DEI space.
