The word Mesopotamia means ‘between two rivers’ in Greek.







Mesopotamia is found east of the Mediterranean sea, bounded in the southeast by the Arabian Plateau (today’s Iraq, but also some parts of modern-day Syria, Iran, and Turkey) and in the northeast by the Zagros Mountains.





The two rivers referred in the name are the Euphrates and Tigris rivers.
