This book features:
Hello spidlings!

Spid the spider here. I live in a village called Spider Webdon, which has its own steam train station. I can go almost anywhere when it’s open. It’s spidtastic.

The bus service is rubbish though and there are no buses at all on Spundays.

My house is at the top of a hill. I live there on my own and I work very hard for very little pay. Which isn’t helpful when you’re trying to improve your prospects.

I like listening to music called SpidRap and I’ve got a girlfriend called Bid. One day,

I’d like to marry Bid – if I ever earn enough money to get married.

I do try hard to be good. I want to be a better spidling. But sometimes … well … let’s just say I get a bit carried away. That’s when Bid has to put me straight. She’s clever at that.

And did I mention I write songs? I’ve written some about the adventures I have in my books. I sing them too. If you have a listen, you can join in and sing along …
BRRRR …

It was cold. VERY cold.

Only when it’s VERY cold do spidlings (and people) huddle up and go, “BRRR”.

Spid had been BRRR -ing since he’d crawled out of bed.

1
“BRRRR …” he said, as he scuttled to the bathroom.

“BRRRR …” he said, as he pulled on his shoes.

“BRRRR …” he said, as he looked out of his kitchen window.

It was snowing outside. Spider Webdon was all white.

2
“Time for a warming moth latte, Spid,” Spid said to himself. “Followed by a crunchy-cricket sandwich – hot from your spidtastic crunchy-cricket-sandwich toaster. And then some tasty grasshopper granola. After all,” he added, “you have to eat plenty, Spid. Cold days need warming up.”

Today was Spidmas Eve, which meant that tomorrow was Spidmas Day.

Spid loved Spidmas Day.

3
4

He was so excited, he couldn’t wait to wake up on Spidmas Day morning.

He couldn’t wait until it was time to open his presents either.
5

And he couldn’t wait for his Spidmas Day lunch – insect roast, with all the trimmings. And for pudding, a sweet mosquito dessert. Perfect. Emm, emm …

Spid also couldn’t wait because tomorrow, he was having a Spidmas party. His girlfriend Bid would be there, along with his cousins, Stidley and Ridley Spidley, and his friends, Herman the harvestman and Cleverley Evaleigh.

His other friends, Pistachio Newt and Nutty Slack, were coming too. Spid hadn’t invited them but that didn’t seem to matter to Pistachio and Nutty. They’d invited themselves.
