Description

A book about burn trauma: one child's burn trauma and its effect on her self image, her relationship with her family, and the love and care she receives from her family to help them all recover.

Belle and Chloe are loving twin sisters who do everything together. But one day, tragedy strikes when Belle is burned by a pot of boiling soup. Coping with third-degree burns on several areas of her body, she must spend a few months in the hospital for treatment and later have surgery to reduce her scars.

A beautifully illustrated story about coping with trauma and recovery, this picture book for children shares the story of the accident, the impact the event has on Belle’s self-image, her relationship with her sister, and the rest of the family, and the value of family, support, and love during her recovery. The story is inspired by the author's own childhood experience.

About the Author
To Mom:
Thank you for all the love and care you gave me when I needed it most. You have been my greatest support, especially when I chose my profession back in ninth grade. And I agree—Chloe is such a great name!
I love you.
To Dad:
When I was little and got an A, you would ask why it wasn’t an A+. You instilled in me the motivation to work hard and strive to do my best. All that I am now is an extension of what you taught me through your example. Your imprint on my life will last forever, from generation to generation. And thanks for the puppy idea!
I love you.
To my “twin” sister, Claudia:
Thank you for being so strong, loving, sweet, and caring. Thank you for your selflessness. Thank you for being my best friend.
I love you.
To my sisters Dora and Marianne:
You encouraged me when kids were tough on me in elementary and middle school. You helped me accept myself for who I am! Thank you.
I love you.
To my sons, Zachary and Sam:
Thank you for supporting me through this first book-writing project.
I love you both, to the moon and back.
To all the children:
If you struggle to accept yourself for who you are, be proud of your reflection in the mirror; others will come to see what you see.

Belle and Chloe: The Twins
Belle and Chloe, twin sisters, loved to play with each other.
They did almost everything together.
They had the same group of friends at school. Sometimes they liked to play tricks on their teachers and friends by switching classes!
In sports, they were on the same teams.
At home, they loved to play board games and dress-up games.
Sometimes they just liked to be outside and share stories about their day, rocking back and forth on their swing set, laughing and giggling with Muffin and Waffles by their side.
