INTRODUCTION
Welcome to this fun book about Jesus and his pet dog. The previously-published two stories “The Shepherds Went with Haste” and “The Wise Men Went with Haste” tell the story of Jesus’ birth and the visit of the shepherds and the wise men. In those stories we learn that when Haste was a young dog, other dogs made fun of him because he was crippled and could not run fast. So they teased him by calling him “Haste”. When Jesus is born, he heals Haste’s crippled leg so he does indeed become a dog who can run very fast. Those books can be purchased by contacting Chris Kersting at bckersting@att.net .
The six stories in this book continue the adventures of Haste and Jesus as I imagine what it would have been like for Jesus to have a pet dog who witnessed many of the events that are recorded in the Bible. The stories come from my imagination, but they are all based on accounts about Jesus in the Bible.
There are some questions at the end of each chapter that can be used to think about the story. Perhaps a parent and child might read the story together and then use the questions to create a short discussion. Or maybe they can just be used to help a reader think about the story.
Many thanks to my illustrator and friend, Beverly Cameron-Fildes. She is part of our great extended family as her daughter is married to my wife’s and my son. It was fun to work with her on this book.
Continued thanks to my wife, Beckie, for her encouragement and interest in seeing that the stories about Haste become available to others.
I hope you enjoy reading about Haste and Jesus. Any questions or thoughts you want to share with me can be sent to the email address listed above. I would love to hear from you.
Many blessings! Happy reading!

CHAPTER 1
Joseph and His Family Went with Haste
Introduction
This story is based on what is called the “Escape to Egypt” recorded in Matthew 2:13-15. It is also based upon an old legend about the role of a spider who helped Joseph and his family hide from the soldiers who were pursuing them.
Haste had been Jesus’ pet dog since the night Jesus was born two years earlier. After being healed by Jesus, Haste would not ever leave Jesus’ side. They were living with Mary and Joseph in a little house in Bethlehem when something strange and scary happened.
Joseph was asleep. Haste was curled up at Jesus’ feet when he heard Joseph talking to someone in his sleep whom Haste could not see. Joseph said, “Yes, I remember when you told me about Jesus before he was born. I will trust you again. We will leave tomorrow.
