Chapter 1
More than Meets the Eye





Rosy was gently flapping her fairy wings on Mrs. Annabel Teacup’s eyes in order to wake her up. Not realizing the time, Annabel had slept in a tad this morning.
But Tim Teacup, Annabel’s husband, had left early to seed his fields.
Spring was in the air!
“Oof!” Annabel gasped. “What’s this all about, my dear Rosy?!”
She spied the clock on her dresser and cleared her eyes with her fists. “Oh my, look at the time! Thank you, Rosy,” said Annabel.
Rosy, a fairy who was part of Annabel’s dream team, smiled.
The team was waiting in Annabel’s summer kitchen to start the days projects. More healing potions and tinctures needed to be created for the spring fair.
When she arrived, Annabel was pleasantly surprised to find that Bebble the bee, had returned from his winter slumber.
As the story goes, Bebble was a bee Annabel Teacup had saved one spring day when her husband, Tim, was spraying their crops. The spray had worked its way to a neighbouring field where the bee was busy pollinating the wildflowers. Because the spray was harmful to bees, Bebble had fallen ill. So, Annabel, along with her dream




team, had nurtured him back to health, and that is how she met her little friend.
“Good morning, my lovely team!” Annabel announced. “Hello, Bebble.”
“Welcome back!” she replied.
“Seems like I slept in this morning!” Annabel laughed.
The team was all there. Rosy and her fairy friends, Bebble, Bruno the dog, and Jolie the finicky cat.
A breeze came in through the side window.
“Perfect!” said Annabel. “Darling is with us in spirit as well.” (Darling being Annabel’s deceased grandmother.) “Now we can begin!”
They were all together working at the large prepping counter. Herbs in the cauldron were simmering. Clean bottles were laid out, with extra fresh herbs on the counter’s surface. It was going to be a very productive day.
But all of that changed when a sudden knock was heard at the screen door.
“Fiddledeedee! Who could that be, Rosy?” Annabel questioned.
The lighting in the kitchen suddenly dimmed, and Bruno and Jolie ran under the table for shelter. Bebble and the fairies flew out the nearest window.




It was Gladys Pritchard, Annabel’s neighbour. She had come to pay a visit—or most likely spy, for that matter. Gladys was much older but still up to her deceiving ways.
“Hello, Annie!”
Gladys liked to call Annabel Teacup, Annie, which made Annabel uncomfortable. She didn’t like being called Annie and felt Gladys did it to annoy her. But being a good soul, she forgave Gladys and invited her in.
“What can I do for you, Mrs. Pritchard?” asked Annabel.
