In this book, we’re going to talk about fun questions and answers concerning nature on Earth. So, let’s get right to it!
Question: What plant does the giant panda eat for most of its diet?
Answer: About 99% of a giant panda’s diet is bamboo. Unfortunately, where the giant panda lives in China, the habitat where bamboo grows is being cleared. With its natural food supply being destroyed, the giant panda is vulnerable to going extinct.
Question: Where are lemurs native?
Answer: Lemurs are only native to Madagascar, which is an island off of Africa’s southeastern coast. These unusual animals are only one of the many species that are native to Madagascar but nowhere else in the world. In fact, of all the many islands and other isolated locations on Earth, Madagascar has the most species unique to it that can’t be found anywhere else.
Question: The world’s longest barrier reef is located off the coast of Australia. What is the second longest and where is it located?
Answer: The second longest barrier reef is off the coast of Belize, which is located in Central America. It’s 185 miles long and is the undersea home to hundreds of different species of fish, corals, sea urchins, sponges, and anemones. It is second only to the Great Barrier Reef off the Australian coast.
