Description

An ancient war between light and dark, good and evil.
When Fiaa turns 21, strange things begin to happen. A chance meeting with a stranger has her seemingly normal life spiralling out of control. This stranger, Ryker, Prince of Faeire, finds something magical and unique with this mortal girl. With one look she has entranced him, but with one touch she sees right through his glamour. Taken to another world, Fiaa's eyes are open to the magical realm of Faerie, where more secrets seem to loom.
Enemies of old come out of the dark, as Fiaa is no mortal girl.

Chapter One STRANGE ENCOUNTERS
Sweat drips down my neck, the bright lights pulse fast to the music, casting the bodies around me into shadows, my heart slams against my chest as I keep up with the music; my calves tighten as I spend another night dancing, getting lost in the chaos that is this place. I don’t know what drags me here lately.
A few things come to mind. Maybe it was finding out I’m adopted; or nearly dying from an unknown sickness; or the fact that for the last week I’ve been waking up in cold sweats or screaming from nightmares. Nightmares I can’t seem to remember when I wake.
So, here I am, three nights in a row, in this club known for its unusual crowd and the lure of numbness from its many choices of liquor.
I trace the outline of my body to my waist; my fingers hook into the denim loops of my jeans, my hips responding to the beat. The music slows and I let my gaze drift across the room almost as if I’m searching for something or someone.
I focus on a shape at the edge of my vision, the shape of a man, a large man. My eyes drift up his long torso: he’s ripped, his body covered in shadows. He seems to fade in and out of my vision. I feel myself taking a step in his direction, a strange light shimmering around his shoulders. I squint my eyes, his features finally coming into focus; a sharp jawline, rose pink lips that just… juicy is what pops into my head. I can’t tell how long his hair is, I think it’s pulled back behind what almost looks like pointed ears?
I stare at this stranger’s mouth, pulling my bottom lip between my teeth as my gaze jumps to his eyes and wow, they’re purple... Purple? It must be the lights in here, but I swear that his eyes are pulsing purple. I feel like I’m swaying, getting lost in the vibrant colour. His eyes snap in my direction. A warm sensation pools low in my core making my thighs press together; his mouth opens, and I swear he’s telling me to come to him.
“Watch it!”
A huge, bulky guy grunts as he bumps into me pushing me back a few steps.
When I look up the stranger has disappeared. Heat rushes to my cheeks. Well, that was weird.
I stumble as the crowd moves against me, the music resounding around the dance floor. I move from the dance floor before I get trampled and head for the top landing where the bar is.
“Vodka?”
The bar tender shouts at me over the music. I nod as I lean against the bar. I rub the back of my neck; my hair feels damp from hours of endless dancing. Usually this isn’t my scene, and something doesn’t feel right. It’s as if ants are crawling under my skin, itching to break the surface.
The bar tender bangs the glass on the bar, sloshing the white liquid into the small shot glass.
“Thanks.”
I smile as he pushes the shot towards me. The heat is welcomed as I swallow the clear liquid, it warms my chest and for the first time since getting here my body finally feels pleasantly numb. I place the glass back on the bar and wipe my sticky fingers on my jeans. Time to go, I think I can finally find some sleep with the numbness seeping into my limbs.
My runners scrape the ground as I drag my feet, I know I’m late for work but the pounding in my head stops me from moving any faster. As I come around the corner, I mutter under my breath, “shit.” The first class is already lined up out the front, not looking very patient.
“Sorry I know I know!”
“Fi, you’re 15 minutes late!” Tom chuckles.
I throw him an apologetic smile over my shoulder.
“I know I’m sorry, I had car troubles!”
I laugh because he knows I live just around the corner, I unlock the doors and push them open.
“Here we go ladies and gents!”
They all hurry past me as I flip the close sign to open. Danny and Paige bought this place five years ago, “Fight and Flight”, Dance and Combat Classes for all agers.
The morning goes fast, classes pause for lunch and that’s about when Danny finally graces me with his presence.
“I heard you were late this morning.” He grunts, pulling the heavy mats out from the storage room.
Ah dam, I feel bad. I’d been late all week. Danny’s an amazing boss and losing Paige last year was hard on him, I mean it would be hard on anyone to lose their other half. The business is struggling, he’d asked me if he could pay me by giving me free lessons here. I told him if he could teach me how to fly kick him in the chest, I’d be happy. He settled with starting off with the basics, I’d never done any kind of fighting before. I was pleased when he said I was a natural after our first lesson.
“Sorry Danny.” It’s a weak apology, I didn’t even have an excuse, usually I’m not so bad at time-managing myself, but this past week I’d been late, couldn’t sleep…
“It’s alright, you do more for me then you don’t!” He smiles.
He pads his way over to where I sit behind the reception desk.
Danny’s pretty hot for someone twice my age, hard muscled body of a fighter, short black hair that always spikes up at the ends and brown honey eyes that would melt your heart when he smiles.
“Care to join me for a warm up?”
“Ready for me to kick your ass again?”
I laugh coming out from behind the desk. Last week I managed to knock him off his feet, given we weren’t actually sparring, and he had been talking to Tom at the time, but it still counts as a win.
“As amazing as it is that you’ve picked up so much over only 3 lessons, let’s just start off with a warm up!” He smiles but it doesn’t reach his eyes.
“Ok Danny boy, lets stretch!”
I smirk taking off my shoes at the edge of the practice mats and step up feeling them dip under my weight. I sit beside him in the middle, joining in on the leg stretches. I look forward to Danny’s lessons, at first, I thought I would be horribly uncoordinated, a sweaty mess, but the movements he taught me and the light bit of sparring we’d done almost came second nature which was just odd, I’d never done dance or any kind of sport. I was such an awkward kid, which made me stay away from it all until Danny offered to teach me. After sparring with him the first time, something inside of me came alive, like a missing piece, I didn’t want to lose it.
I lie on my back while Danny continues to stretch, even though we’d been stretching for 30 minutes. I roll slightly, watching him, he’s one fine specimen to look at, he’d taken off his jumper which left me with staring at his tight and very large arm muscles. I sigh loudly looking back at the ceiling.
“Alright I think I’m warm now, want to spar?”
“Thought you’d never ask!”
“Let’s see if you’ve remembered anything.”
He moves his right leg back, bending his knees getting into stance. I lock eyes with Danny, he wigg
