Description

Life is a Smorgasbord is a racy compilation of the trials, tribulations, trepidation, and soul-searching through separation, divorce, single motherhood, life, and the quest for true love in three parts, which are confessional in nature. Part IV has a more modern approach with storytelling and reflection.

“My favorite of those I read is ‘Let It Out,’ the perfect—it seems to me— poetic expression of expression (honesty does indeed yield clarity). The best argument against Dickinson’s ‘success in circuit lies.’” Al Filreis, Kelly Family Professor of English, University of Pennsylvania.

“I can relate to this idea of an artist in their garret hacking away as canned and stereotyped and wrong as that may be, but that’s the work isn’t it, its own reward, the shifting eye of the mind and ear here in the making? Yeah it’s a lonely job, but somebody’s gotta do it, soldier away and watch flowers grow. So thank you for your work! Or as Keats wrote to Reynolds on 2/19/1818... ‘...thus by every germ of spirit sucking the sap from mould ethereal every human might become great, and humanity instead of being a wide heath of furse and briars with here and there a remote oak or pine, would become a grand democracy of forest trees,’” written about “Still Alone.” ‘Denny’ AKA Nicholas Stern, Mentor, University of Pennsylvania.

Ms. Weiland Abrams received the Editor’s Choice Awards for her poems “Gray,” “Is it Over” and “Life is Like a Linen Skirt” from Howard Ely, Managing Director, International Library of Poetry.

Preface
My book is heartfelt confessional poetry which begins with the end of my marriage, moves forth through trials, tribulations and trepidation of separation, divorce, single motherhood, and the quest for true love, and ends with the Karmic cycle of life and more tales told.
This work is in four parts, the first three taken from my first three books. Red Rose begins on the verge of my marital separation and continues to my love story with Marty, which I chronicle in Long Winters Night, and thereafter winding up my story in Karma , the cycle of life. Part IV feels more modern with storytelling and reflection.
“My favorite of those I read is ‘Let It Out,’ the perfect—it seems to me—poetic expression of expression (honesty does indeed yield clarity). The best argument against Dickinson’s ‘success in circuit lies.’” Al Filreis, Kelly Family Professor of English, University of Pennsylv ania.
‘...thus by every germ of spirit sucking the sap from mould ethereal every human might become great, and humanity instead of being a wide heath of furse and briars with here and there a remote oak or pine, would become a grand democracy of forest trees,’” written about “Still Alone.” ‘Denny’ AKA Nicholas Stern, Mentor, University of Pennsylv ania.
“’my perfection may be slipping away’ —> powerful line” Al Filreis, Kelly Professor of English, University of Pennsylvania wrote of “La Mi mosa.”
I received the Editor’s Choice Awards for my poems “Gray,” “Is it Over” and “Life is Like a Linen Skirt” from Howard Ely, Managing Director, International Library of Poetry.
I have noted my favorite poems in the Table of Contents with asterisks. I hope you will enjoy and relate.
Three of my poems are written in Italian, which are profound as they are, but I shall attempt to translate them into English as follows . . .

I’m terrible—I am thinking much about love;
Love that only an Italian can understand;
When I am alone one whom I like;
A masculine love who can tell me he wants me;
A beautiful fantasy full of thoughts;
A long slow story full of desires;
I am afraid of actually being close;
I am thinking first of my family;
But I am frustrated, don’t have that which I need;
A sentiment, little stroke, hug and kiss;
But what a beautiful destiny, what a beautiful memory;
Of seeing you again every week;
You can leave me a message when you want;
How much I like to hear your voice;
I want this romance in my life;
It is you who must decide how the story goes.

It Sweeps Us Away
Under the stars
The beautiful bodies
Are together.
Only the moon
Can see
All that is happening.
First the dance
Begins-one
Can smell the perfume.
And the energy
Of nature
Sweeps us away.
Above the stars
The beautiful bodies
Stay together.

I have to always look ahead
There will be many beautiful compensations
I have my good boys
They give me lots of hugs and kisses
I also have kind friends
They listen to my disasters
A good family I have
There are only problems I give
So the time has arrived
To search for the courage inside
A bigger cause I will find
A security inside I will have
I believe I need patience
I must use intelligence
Better to be alone
But sometimes I’m afraid
I pray for a bright light
For helping me see golden dreams
They will be in my life
This is how I go straight ahead
Then I’ll pray for our God
To give me my true love.
PART I
Mystical Moon
The mystical moon,
Silent, still, and full,
Awesome in the sky,
Almost unaware,
Its power over
The water, over
Emotions below.
Creating torrid
Swells, energy flows
Through the ebb and tide,
Often reflecting
The sun’s brilliance,
Yet unable to
Embrace—far away.
It shimmers, it shines,
It glimmers, it glows,
Seems never to stay,
Always seems to go,
However leaving
Its everlasting
Effects on my soul.
No Passion
I spoke with my husband this morning,
Tried to smooth things over and he said,
“I know you have no passion for me,
But will you take care of me in bed?
I see you in skimpy underwear,
And you still turn me on, naturally.”
I replied, “Yes”, to make him happy.
Count Your Blessings
I say to myself, count your blessings,
Things really aren’t so bad;
There is a roof over my head, and
I shouldn’t be so sad,
Since my children are safe and happy;
I need them, they need me.
We buy good food, and we cook it well,
Should be on bended knee;
But, there is no passion, I want to
Live and to love again.
Wine And Roses
In the days of wine and roses,
Thought love was in the air;
It made me feel so good you see,
Just thinking you were there.

But you were never there I guess;
It’s sad, but I must face,
The truth it seems, although it hurts,
And I am a disgrace.

I must be strong, before too long,
My freedom, have I will;
I must be strong, and say so long,
I cannot love you still.

It will never change, you and me,
No real connection there;
A shallow force of energy,
Something up in the air.
Free As A Bird
Have you heard the song,
“Free, Free As A Bird”?
I’ve listened to it,
It’s not so absurd.
My husband has left,
And it seems for good;
Could I love anew?
I wish that I could.
