By looking deep within ourselves, we can find a way through the confusion, anxiety, stress and trauma of life into a place of healing with the help of this inspirational poetry collection.
A soul-searching journey and a holistic healing of an autoimmune disease led Jarid Simington to a deeper understanding and an eventual changing of his thoughts and actions. As he goes through this self-discovery and self-improvement journey, Jarid shares his unique thought processes in his eye-opening and thought-provoking poetry, where he unravels his thoughts and finds a connection with his heart, helping those imbalanced to balance, those confused to find clarity, and those unhappy to become content.
A Deeper Look explores the unknown, deals with stress and anxiety, expands our understanding of ourselves, and shows us how to develop compassion and learn how to love. You will experience personal growth and transformation, and you will connect with yourself, nature, life, your ancestors, God, the universe, and the entire cosmos on a deeper level with every cell of your being. So, let’s sit back, relax, and take a deeper look within.
With A Deeper Look, discover a new awareness of yourself, and get ready to become the more peaceful person you’ve always wanted to be.

To my mom and dad, and to Granny and Pa.
I dedicate A Deeper Look to you for all the dedication that you have shown to me. Thank you for everything.

The poetry in A Deeper Look is written for everyone. It is for all of us who are questioning, thinking, wondering, wandering, seeking, growing, and healing. May this poetry expand our thoughts, broaden our experiences as we look within, and bring us to a deeper understanding of ourselves.

To the student of life, everything is a teacher.
Introduction
A major theme in my life and in A Deeper Look is personal growth. My poetry allows me to share this personal growth and to use it to relate, teach, and entertain all at the same time.
The poetry in A Deeper Look mostly centers on the things I have become aware of about myself and my surroundings. Many of the poems I have written tell stories about what I have learned or, in many cases, what I am still in the process of learning. Some poems came to me as life was teaching me things I didn’t know I needed to learn; others came as answers to the questions I was asking or as I was gaining a new perspective and awareness of myself and life.
We can all relate to the thoughts, feelings, and emotions presented in A Deeper Look . I know that if these poems are what I was feeling or needing to hear at a certain point in life, then they are what many others are feeling or needing to hear at a certain point in their lives as well. You are never alone on your journey of self-discovery, a journey that requires us to understand and master our emotions, thought patterns, and actions in order to create a healthier, happier life.
As human beings, we experience many phases in life. These poems are a way for us all to connect with and relate to each other on an emotional level, to embrace being human at both ends of the spectrum. At one end, we recognize that we are not perfect and accept our vulnerability with compassion and empathy. At the other end, we realize what powerful beings we are, and we learn how to tap into our greatest human potential.
In the following poems, we will explore the unknown, learn to deal with stress and anxiety, expand our understanding through science and spirituality, learn how to love, and take a trip of self-discovery and self-healing. We will experience personal transformation, and we will connect with ourselves, nature, life, our ancestors, God, the universe, and the entire cosmos on a deeper level with every cell of our beings.
A Deeper Look was fun to create. Each time I read a poem, it brings me new insight and understanding as I continue to connect with life in new ways. I hope the substance and flow of the words that follow will provide you with the same enjoyable, knowledgeable, and thought-provoking experience I get from them.
Author’s Note
A few years ago I asked a question to the universe: “How can I teach in an entertaining way?”
A new me started forming as the old me started to fade.
Poetry began to flow, and A Deeper Look began to take shape.
This is a creation that is for everyone, no matter one’s age, sex, religion, or race.
We all feel a connection here regardless of where we are from or what we believe. With A Deeper Look , there are no boundaries.
For those with an open mind and an open heart, this is sure to be a good read.
Thank you for picking this book up and enjoying this conscious poetry with me.
Preface
A Deeper Look is a book that can be read from front to back or just placed on a coffee table and picked up randomly for a quick poem or two.
I organized the poetry in a way that felt right to me. For those who read all the poems in order from front to back, you will find they flow well, I believe. You will be able to see the whole story unfold.
But if you are in search of something specific, then here is a primer of sorts that will quickly point you to the right poem:
“Seasons Change” details going through change, undergoing a journey, and gaining an understanding of yourself.
“Views” is about perception.
“Down the Mountain” discusses clarity, aligning your thoughts, finding a spiritual connection, achieving peace and quiet, and focusing your energy.
“Breaking Down Perceptive Filters” is about understanding the role of your perception and your senses.
“Psychology” illuminates the failure to see the beauty around you every day. It also talks about balance; forcing one’s opinions, beliefs, and style on others; criticizing others; how one arrives at what one believes; and deception.
“The River Swept Me Away” is about thinking clearly and calmly, easing tension and clutter, and letting go.
“Dream Catcher” talks about growing apart and achieving new growth.
“Trailblazing” details doing hard work for a higher calling.
“Paradigm Shift” urges you to pay attention to your ancestors and to any angels who are communicating with you.
“Start Listening” is about God, guidance, and divine spiritual forces.
“New” is about the earth, our home; community; thinking clearly; and caring for ourselves and others.
“Don’t Miss Your Opportunity” advocates always being ready; having patience; being persistent; maintaining position and focus; and seizing opportunity.
“Do Not Fear” is about staying positive and the epigenetic journey.
“Crossing the Rubicon” talks about losing control of yourself, continuing though life in the wrong way, and achieving balance.
“Honeybee” details temperament, situational awareness, and calming down anger.
“Cellular Architecture” discusses integrity and creation.
“Snakes in the Grass” explores camouflage and being true to yourself and others.
“An Understanding” discusses perception and deception.
“Deep Thoughts from the Shallows” explores self-realization, unwitting shallowness, and balance.
“Pa’s Words of Wisdom” deals with patience and natural flow.
“Derby Day” is a family story.
“Heavy Winds” illustrates clearing out space for the new.
“Wounded Warriors” is a poem wherein I wonder if there will ever be a day when I don’t fight myself. It is also about separation and disrespect.
“Recollection” discusses the perception of memories and the importance of the various versions of yourself.
“Present Moment Conduit” is about channeled energy and universal connection.
