Is classical poetry lost in a relentless sea of social media?.... or can great pleasure be derived in the time-honored tradition of exploring meaningful thoughts and emotions?

The discovery of poetry at an early age allowed me to appreciate life and my connection to the human experience in a way that an awkward teenager would have missed. Reading poetry brought me joy and expanded my awareness while teaching me how thoughts and emotions could be reflected in a brief economy of words. I had entered the inner world of poetic language and was hooked!

This book is about a collective of perceptions forged by my particular life experience. My poetry has always been a grounding force for me as well as a semblance of order. It became my sense of purpose and an explanation for what I was going through. It is a part of my structure from which I derive a sense of fulfillment and comfort.

I am thankful that so many poets have nourished my heart and mind through their words and hope that something in the spirit of this book of poetry will also resonate and speak to you, the reader.

Rope Burns
Once you said that I’ve been pulling a rope,
Of a bobbing boat,
That’s dragging me out to sea.
I guess you could say,
That my stubborn ways,
Had worried me not to agree.
I’ve been pulling the rope that I’ve always pulled,
But perhaps it is time I let glide,
The boat that wants out for the ocean’s mist.
I’ll just drop in the twinkling tide.



The Distinction of Choice
The distinction of choice,
Like the flick of a hand,
In accordance with life,
Is an incredible span.
To know in your mind,
That a thought predisposed,
Can combine with your will
And wiggle your toes,
Is a claim on forever,
A flutter on earth,
That rode its own breeze,
And felt its own worth.



Early Remembrance
The wind, the clouds, and me.
My hair blowing wildly.
Blue pedal car abandoned.
Dark clouds moving quickly.
Something very different.
Alone but not afraid.
Four years old and standing.
The sidewalk past my driveway.
Looking up and watching.
Captured by the watching.
The wind, the clouds, and me.
