Description

When things happen or situations crop up that raise an eyebrow, or cause a smile or simple appreciation, they are often the catalyst for one of Charlie’s poems. He finds putting writing them frees his mind to get on with something else.

Adversaries
There’s a couple in Adelaide,
well to do
and retired now.
The climate may be in trouble,
and our government glued to the past.
Covid is abroad round the planet,
but thankfully being reined in,
with jabs, plus people being careful.
All that aside,
The drama of the day,
was that a possum had broken in
last night through the cat flap,
made a big mess,
and wrecked a plant outside.
While the cat
had done nothing...
The cat and the possum
- the government and the climate.
Are they afraid
or just too fat?

Automaticity
Australia was autonomous for 65,000 years
no imports no exports -
totally self-reliant
with 300,000 peaceful sane Aboriginal people.
The masts for
Nelson’s victory came from Canada-
there were no tall trees left in UK.
All had been felled.
Madeira means woods in Spanish
- no trees left there now.

Easter island was once covered in palm trees

The production of charcoal,
was a major cause of deforestation in Europe.
Last July in Australia,
imports were $33M,
exports $46M.
Will Australia return to being Autonomous,
when She feeds the world
with renewables powered Hydrogen and Ammonia?
And have everything She needs
till the year
- 67,021?!
Change
Attenborough & Rockstrom made a very clear film
– ‘Breaking Boundaries’ shown on Netflix.
They show we are driving the climate
from a ‘Garden of Eden’ period of stability,
in which humanity has grown,
11,600 years encompassing the Aborigine peoples,
the Pyramids, Stonehenge & our evolution.
To a man-made period now of instability.
Now we are poisoning the sea and the air
– 7.5 million die from exhaust dust each year.
Half the reefs in the sea have died
from the heat rise and been bleached.
Things we can each do to help
are to eat healthy - non meat food,
and avoid driving.
Cut the drafts and insulate our houses.
A time where the effect
on the planet of any action we take
must be considered,
before we take it.
Greenland is melting already,
we must all change
in the next decade.
- we can.
Choice
There are things in life
you’ve got to do.
2 cups of tea,
and a while later -
well nature calls!
A visit can be made
to a probably cold white room,
smelling of chlorine,
with that Scottish device for saving water -
the WC.
But if blessed with a garden,
at the cost of a few yards’ stride,
there are the gifts of the smells of the blossom,
