Description

The purpose of this book is to provide you, the reader, with insight into my writing style and to assist you in developing your own style for writing in cards for your loved ones. Additionally, the contents of this book will enable you to utilize a few lines or even transcribe and use entire poems suitable for your family and friends.

One particular poem to pay close attention to is '14,600 days.' This calculation is based on a 40-year marriage or a Ruby wedding anniversary. You can easily recalculate it for any anniversary and include it in the title, as it doesn't appear within the poem. Simply adjust the year according to the anniversary—20, 30, 40, 50 years, and so on. The positioning of this calculation does not affect the rhyme, giving you a versatile poem that can be used repeatedly for any anniversary.

Similarly, '60 years young' and '70 years young' can be modified for birthdays. Any age can be used without affecting the rhyme. The same applies to 'A darn good M.O.T.' and 'There's a thing.'

The poem 'Dad, it's your Birthday' can be changed to 'Mum, it's your Birthday,' along with 'Penny for your thoughts,' 'Guiding light,' 'Dad,' and 'Lazy days.'

On the other hand, 'Hopes and dreams' and 'The little things' can be reversed from Mum to Dad. Likewise, 'One in a million' can be changed accordingly, but remember to switch from Maternal to Paternal.

Two other poems worth mentioning are 'Hard to find,' where you can switch 'Wife' to 'Husband' and remove the term 'darling wife,' and 'Rare and special.'

'Trust in me' is a versatile poem where you can use 'Wife,' 'Husband,' 'Girl,' 'Boy,' or simply insert the word 'Love.'

'A piece of Heaven' is another flexible poem that can be used for anniversaries, birthdays, or Valentine's Day by filling in the appropriate words.

Lastly, 'Hidden Charms' is a useful poem to accompany a bouquet of flowers.

Although these few poems can be altered to suit your needs, you will find that the rest are universal and cover a wide range of topics. I hope these guidelines are helpful in some way.

May this book bring you success in writing your own poetry and provide you with as much enjoyment in reading its content as I had in creating it.

The Readers Guide

The idea of the book is to give you the reader an insight into not only my style of writing but also as an aid to helping you develop your own style for maybe writing in loved ones cards yourselves.
Also this book and its contents will allow you to use the odd line or two or even transcribe and use a full poem if suitable for family and friends.
Pay close attention to the poem ‘14’600 days’. This has been calculated if someone has been married 40 years or a Ruby wedding Anniversary. This can be simply re-calculated for any anniversary and just added into the title as it does not appear in the poem and then change the appropriate year according to the Anniversary . . . e.g. 20,30,40,50 years etc as its position does not affect the rhyme, leaving you with a versatile poem that can be used time and time again for any anniversary.
Also take a look at ‘60 years young’ and ‘70 years young’, the same applies here only for a birthday, any age can be used as it doesn’t affect the rhyme along with ‘A darn good M.O.T.’ and ‘There’s a thing’.
The poem ‘Dad its your Birthday’ and can be changed to Mum Along with ‘Penny for your thoughts’, ‘Guiding light’, ‘Dad’ and ‘Lazy days’.
‘Hopes and dreams’ however is the other way around from Mum to Dad along with ‘The little things’. ‘One in a million’ can also be changed in the same way but don’t forget, if you do, to change over Maternal to Paternal as well.
Others to look out for are ‘Hard to find’ where you can change Wife to Husband and discard darling wife and also ‘Rare and special’.
‘Trust in me’ is a good one as you can use either Wife, Husband, Girl, Boy, or even just put in the word Love.
‘A piece of Heaven is another versatile poem as you can use it for Anniversaries, Birthday’s or Valentine’s just by slotting in the appropriate words.
The last one that could be of help is ‘Hidden Charms’ as it is a good one to send with some flowers.
Even though these few poems can be altered to suit, you will find that the rest are very universal and cover all aspects, but I hope these guidelines help in some way.
I hope this book brings you success in writing your own poetry and also as much enjoyment reading its content as it has me in creating it . . .

Best wishes to you all

14,600 Days
Marriage is for eternity, forever and for life
Where you find the perfect Husband and the perfect Wife
You travel in life’s journey, together hand in hand
Sharing in life’s riches, United you both stand
As your marriage blossoms, like a precious flower
Be good to one another, for every lasting hour
Companionship and tenderness, Is most important too
And don’t forget those little words, each day that’s
“I love you”
Be there for one another, each and every day
No matter what life throws at you, you’ll always find a way
These words are words of wisdom and this I know is so
For they came from you when I was young, not so many years ago
Let’s celebrate 40 years, when you both became one
And raise a glass to good times past
And many more to come

60 Years Young
April marks the start of Spring
Where Cherry Blossom falls
And all the trees glow emerald green
With the splendour of it all
This is a special time of year
With new life all around
Birds sing harmony in the air
To all life on the ground
This is a special time for you
It marks your 60th year
With all you’ve done in your life
Fond memories full of cheer
I’d like to thank you for all your love
And just for being mum
Wishing you a happy day
And many more to come

70 Years Young
I refuse now I am older, to sit in my chair
And have people treat me, as if I’m not there
Take hold of life firmly and never let go
You’ll feel 10 years younger, well you never know
If you feel as strongly as I about this
Then follow these rules, these guidelines, this list
Get up bright and early and seize the day
This daily routine is the only way
A nice cup of tea and a slice of toast
With just enough time to open the post
Then walk to the town without any fuss
And wave to all those who have taken the bus
First stop the post office, my pension is due
Distract all around you and then jump the queue
Then run like the wind before you are seen
For the papers, the lottery the weeks magazine
Now thank them politely, but “no time to chat”
It’s over the road for food for the cat
Don’t forget bread, it’s just a short hop
And the eggs and the milk in your corner shop
Then the bank and the chemist, to name but a few
And a stroll in the park to take in the view
With your best foot forward its time to go home
For a nice cup of tea and a chat on the phone
Now you’ve done all your jobs, you’ve done them your way
And sit down a meal, and reflect on the day
Yes, I refuse now I’m older to sit in my chair
And have people treat me as if I’m not there
There’s too much to do, life’s still too much fun
I’m sorry, excuse me,—I’m 70 years young
