This book is dedicated to the love of my life April and our children Jermaine, Atiya, Avontae, X’zavion, and Craig Jr. Thank you guys for always sticking by me and believing in me. I could not have made it this far without you. You guys are my inspiration, my motivation, and my reason to keep keeping on. I love you guys!

Back to the Cross
Back to the c ross.
Kneeling at the foot of salva tion.
Seeking redemption, my soul’s restora tion.
In the presence of the tri nity.
The first and the last, the only infi nity.
Back to the p lace.
Seeking his face.
Walking this path.
Saved by his g race.
Lost in the wilder ness.
Crafted images I placed before you, no golden calf.
No Moses, no A aron.
My sins opened up the ground beneath to swallo w me.
And even still you fed me plen tily.
And I still compla ined.
You made blessings rain.
Down like m anna.
I prayed for a child and you made her a Ha nnah.
And blessed us with a son.
Even when you called my name I chose to run.
It seems I had a Jonah mo ment.
The giant fish had to swallo w me.
As I was cast overb oard.
I was dreaming like Joseph and heard a voice but still ign ored.
Because the world looked good to hold.
Chasing things that looked like silver and gold.
But only separated me further from you.
You gave me a family to lead, they looked up to me like a hero.
You showed me my promise land, but instead I died on Mount Nebo.
But you resurrected my inner Laz arus.
And when my inner Peter doubted, you reached out a helping hand.
To pull me out of the water, in which I found myself drow ning.
You calmed my storms with your hand and created smiles from frow ning.
You never gave up on me even when I threw you away.
I’m back to your cross now, and I am here to stay.
You said you will never leave me, nor forsak e me.
Even when you should have, you stayed and I appreciate that gre atly.
You are married to the backslider, and I’m the prodigal’s son.
I am found, before I was lost.
And Lord I thank you for sending her, to bring me back to your c ross.

Something About April
I wanted to write this poem to you.
Yeah, you!
Well its more of my thoughts, it’s just coincidental that it rh ymes.
I think the clock just struck midnight, it’s just our time.
It’s just something about you.
I don’t know what maybe it’s a mys tery.
Or maybe it’s the fairytale thoughts I have about you kissin g me.
Or could it be these thoughts of us together wishin g we?
Or the unclear pictures of life you helped me see more cryst ally.
See from your eyes, to your lips, to your skin tone smooth like brown sugar or m aple.
June brings the summer, I want to hold you in the winter, but then I fall and spring to A pril.
I enjoy wrapping my arms around you, you sleep so peac eful.
And if I could replay those moments it’ll be a never-ending se quel.
See it’s something about you.
Maybe it’s your persona lity.
Or how when I’m in your presence you defy the laws of gra vity.
Could it be your s tyle?
The swing of your hips?
The curve of your s mile?
Maybe it’s your voice, breathtaking and fine.
When you speak the curl of my toes, the chills down to my s pine.
If it’s something you do I don’t want you to sto p it.
Could it be your love for our children, or your cravings for choco late?
Could it be your fragrance, I’m in love with your s cent?
Maybe it’s just the fact that I cherish your time and enjoy all that we’ve s pent.
I’ll kiss you on your best days and hold you when your days seem r oug h.
I really don’t know what it is, but I just can’t get en ough.
It’s just something about you.

#3
I wish I could give y ou 3.
3 kisses for each part of me that you tou ched.
1 for my mind.
1 for my soul.
1 for my h eart.
If I could touch you for 3 more seconds, my life would be cha nged.
Every night when I pray, I say your name.
Looking at this clock, it’s a quarter pa st 3.
Missing the smiles you gave as you walked pas t me.
And a quarter of me died when you lef t me.
You were always good on the field, you threw l efty.
And playe d DB.
That was m y DB!
Although my heart is hur ting.
I know God is wor king.
Heaven called you too soon, that I know for cer tain.
You always had a smile that could shine through the cur tain.
They retired your jersey at the school, that’s the impact you made.
And your girls are getting so big, thanks got the gift that you gave.
Sometimes it’s hard to look at them, because all I see is you.
I miss your hey mommas, and you wearing those Navy B lues.
