The title was chosen from dear memories of Brother Norris. As he concluded his sermons, quite often he said, “Now, one more blessed thought….”. I trust God will grant you One More Blessed Thought as you read this book
ONE MORE BLESSED THOUGHT
Brother Norris was walking through the college one day. He saw Kirby Tiller, a former student.
He said, “Hi Kirby! Why didn’t you let me know you were coming? I would have scheduled you to preach. But, I have already scheduled a speaker. I’m going to visit a blind man. Come with me.”

They finished the visit. Brother Norris shook hands with the man, Brother Tiller followed. In the car, a ways away, Brother Tiller asked, “How is the man fixed?”

Brother Norris said, “If you mean money, when I shook his hand, I gave him $20.”

Brother Tiller, “We have to go back! When I shook his hand, I took the $20 out.”

They returned and Brother Tiller returned the money. Brother Tiller was so considerate, he would have walked back to return the gift.

I wandered down the street today
thinking what would come my way.
An attractive lady came near.
My oh my! What a dear.
She said, “How do you do?”
I said, “Fine. How about you?”
She answered, “A couple of blocks along the way,
There is a coffee shop, if you may.”
So we chose to make a pause,
Without a reason or a cause.
Of course you want to know what’s next.
Now that is the reason for the text.
Did she say yes or did she say no?
Sorry friend, end of the show.
THANKFUL
I am thankful for the birds that sing,
And happy for the bells that ring,
And also glad to see it rain,
And for the lonely, lovely crane.
The flowers on the hillsides grow
And even for the grass we mow.
Flowers in colorful array,
Always fully bloom in May.
The bees make honey, oh so sweet!
So you and I may have a treat.
I am sure that you can say
These things in a better way.
Oh one more, before we part,
I’m glad I have a thankful heart.
A TWIST
I dropped a glass it broke you see
Now what do you think that did to me?
Oh you can find another one,
There are many more beneath the sun.
So why am I so upset?
You say I should just forget.
What is it you fail to know?
The glass had such a pretty glow.
It was almost perfect too.
I liked it through and through.
Why the fuss over a tiny glass?
Well this one had some class.
So on and on I went.
I wondered what it really meant.
So I pondered for a while,
And pace around, for most a mile.
It is so silly, I hear you say
To let a broken glass upset your day.
Now don’t make light of this,
Your favorite glass you’ll really miss.

Could it be my dear friend,
That these wars will never end?
How can men ever find a way
To get together and someone say
The conflict must come to an end?
Surely these leaders each can bend.
How can you kill another one
And not feel guilty for what you’ve done?
Men of stature can’t you see,
This is as wrong as it can be.
Forever we can access the blame,
But this will never bring you fame.
The Good Book says, “You shall not kill,”
And that will always be God’s will.
Pray for peace everyday
And we’ll all be better in every way.
BE NEAR DEAR
I wish that you were near.
There is so much to hear.
So much more can be said,
For it’s better said than read.
When I gaze upon your face,
My mind has trouble keeping pace.
Never thought we’d ever be,
So far away oh can’t you see!
I can’t touch your hand so tender,
Or have any other, more to render.
I can’t whisper words so neat,
And feel your heart skip a beat.
But I guess this will have to do,
At least I sure can dream of you.
And there really is no restraint
And to our actions be no taint.
When I awoke I still believe,
All my loneliness will have relief.
Now I hear you whisper love.
Do you really love me so?
Never have another though.
Your presence, so much good has brought.
So I’ll count the many days,
We’ll bask together in sunshine rays.
GRANDPA
1877-1947
Grandpa, Reverend Homer W. Smith, was teaching Bible Class on a Sunday morning in a home mission church in Glenlawn, Seymour, Indiana. A stranger sat down in the class. Soon, he said, “I have a question. Do you think women should be able to wear their dresses above their knees instead of just above their ankles.” Grandpa didn’t answer him. The third time this man asked, grandpa decided to answer. He said, “If you’d lust after their knees, you’d lust after their ankles.” The man left.

The colder the night, the warmer the fire.
The abundance of rain, the deeper the mire.
All the worries on earth
Can’t defeat our joy and mirth.
You can call me what you may,
I pay no attention to what you say.
Even from the children’s mind,
Come thoughts of a special kind.
Listen now, while an aged friend talks,
They have had a long, long walk.
Even the ant, the wise men said,
Can teach us lessons, if we’re led.
Lesser ones than we purport to be,
Will open our eyes and help us see.
Never be so very sure of self,
That you miss abundant wealth.
For ‘neath the blackest soil you may find,
The greatest wealth of every kind.
STORMY WEATHER
Darkness is coming, I see a storm.
No, I am not trying to set off an alarm.
The prudent man would say,
“What can we do to save the day?”
Despair does not the answer bring,
Let’s do what can make us sing.
Find the safest place to go,
And ‘neath the fury, just lay low.
Soon the light will move on to you,
And then, bright sun will shine through.
It wasn’t long you had to wait
To find what would be your fate.
Since you and yours acted wise,
I would venture it’s no surprise.
So now go merrily on your way
For you may finish a very good day.
Ask me, if you have a need,
Then be happy with my deed.
It may not be what you had in mind.
But please accept I’m being kind.
Be content with what you get
And consider it heaven sent.

Foolishness may go a mile.
Once in a while, make you smile.
Even say things so very clever.
Sometimes then your feelings sever.
But if something you’d want to do,
Just say, “Good morning! How are you?”
Simple words seem to relay,
Words of wisdom for the way.
Think not how to make them hurt
Please don’t dig them from the dirt.
Sad words often make us cry.
Kind words open up the eye.
Mean what you say and maybe then,
Blessings along life’s road you’ll send.
Now open up the door.
Walk just a few steps more.
Lift your voice in loud acclaim,
“Having a good day is our aim!”

I was standing in the shadow of the cross
And I wondered at the world’s great loss.
How can it be that no one thought,
The amount of love our Saviour brought?
Could we ever His care assess?
Or have realized how our lives were such a mess?
It is easy for us to blame,
but Jesus freely, in time
