CALICO SCALLOPS

Its beautiful calico shell,
is a fortified castle,
with one hundred eyes along its mantle.
The eyes can detect nearby predators,
so the scallop can swim away.
This denizen of the deep sea,
Where the bivalve resides,
on sandy or shelly bottoms,
off Florida beaches.
lives about eighteen months.
Their beautiful pink laced shells,
are a treasure to find,
along the nearby beaches,
adding special pleasure,
to my surfside walks.

CALIFORNIA COAST
Fantastic montage of beach and cliff,
where surfing waves laugh on shingle,
sing songs where sea and shore mingle.
Earth displays its might and glory.
Romantic coves glow with nature’s grace.
Sea enfolds astounding life.
Many live among mystic islands.
Tidal flats home clams and crabs.
Nature’s best art may be seen,
where combers drive against rocks and cliffs,
throwing spume high in the sky,
while finely sculpting talc and scree.
Ice plants carpet rock escarpments,
A rim of freeform tidal pools
dot mini meadows twixt the rocks,
homing lovely flowers and plants.
When strong West winds drive hard ashare,
Waves boom and bellow like bellicose bulls.
Shore quakes and trembles as if dismayed,
that wind and wave create such chaos.
Awesome cliffs amaze the eyes.
A moraine of stone wades in the sea.
Stone sentinels stand guard,
ensuring sanctuary in this place.
Let your mind wonder, enjoy the view.
The coast will always be here for you,
