Description

Someone once said to me, “It must be nice to get up every day
and see a circus in your back yard.”
I told them, “the circus is in my mind.”

Neuro Circustry
Introduction
by Paul Lutton
Neuro-Circustry is in a sense the hard wiring within the human body that can seemingly control what we think and feel.
This book isn't about that. Or is it? Those familiar with the works of Al Ferber and his alter ego, Gus, know that Al/Gus make no apologies for their blunt often disturbing description of the world. He can't help it. He is what he is, and fuck you if you don't like it. He's gonna tell what the world looks like from behind his eyes. But is it all ugliness? All just inescapable biology leading us down the dark hallways of fate? No! It's a circus! See what he did there? There is always humor amidst the ugliness. There is always redemption. Can you find it in these pages. Look hard.
Lunch
we’d have lunch at a cafe
across the street from his
house
that he referred to
as death valley
maybe once a month
two wounded animals
breathing the same air
Dakota told me stories
about him leaving his wife
and kids
to run off with a blond
beauty
who left her husband
to run
off with him
how they traveled and partied
and
went through all of his money
he’s ask if me and wife
cuddled
in bed at night
and how he regretted that no
longer was happening
in his bed
and how
she’s taken up with a millionaire
supposed friend
since he was diagnosed with
early onset Alzheimer’s disease
last time I saw him
he told me
we had
gradually shifted roles
and I'd
become his nut doctor
Peril
on this night
in the dead
of night
the streetlights
are
shrouded
in mist in
low
hanging clouds
in settling fog
creating
an eerie pall
to the empty
courtyard
corpses lying silent
in their beds
till morning
till daybreak waiting
for the ominous spell
to lift
waiting for death
to float
or be chased away
until it is safe to go
outside to get
the morning paper
Under The Table
at the mark X number
of months of age
it was him what crawled
under the kitchen table
and started
with his bah ha ha
for reasons
still unclear to him
until
by the arm
he got dragged out
from under
by this mother who
smacked him on his bottom
prompting him
to start his bah ha ha
which got
his bottom smacked
again
and another string
of bah ha ha
and another smack
and another
string of bah ha ha
and him wishing
he could think
what the fuck are you
trying to do. kill me.
Well, Well
he read a story
about
two composers
trapped in the
rattle of death
arguing over
which of them
could converse
with the
heavens
and the stars
maneuver
from one side
of a rainbow
to the other
make crystal ring
to its highest note
without breaking
Is It Safe
he saw a fox
burying the carcass
of a crow
beneath a tree
a dock
without a boat
three small children
beating
each other to death
with
pick up sticks
the moon
hinting at itself in the
afternoon sky
a desperate prayer
groveling
unsuccessfully
before its
invisible silent lord
colors fading in nature
without hope
of rejuvenation
a burned out star
sucked into
a black hole of time
*
I Hope So
woke up
with thorns
in
my ass
feathers
in
my ears
and christmas
tree balls
in
my nut sack
and
my lady asked
did you have
weird dreams
last night
*
Twice Now
within
a week’s time
i took
a full swing
to clock
some thing
or
some body
who or that
had come
uninvited to
an
otherwise
pleasant dream
1 st time
my honey
fortuitously
was able to
duck the shot
that went
whizzing past
her ear
2 nd time
it caught her
unawares
and she did
get hit but
told me
it was only
a flesh wound
P.S.
even my
dreams are
a threat
to my self
and others
Every F’ing Time
lies line up like
so many
dead soldiers
still not having
received
official orders
destination
still and forever
unknown
faces pale
in the morning mist
blood drained
from
just beneath the skin
it is lies
dripping from
the puffed up lips
of men
and women
who distort
the ever shifting
truth where good
might
have been conceived
Some Things
The house next door
had a
white and green
metal awning.
The occupants were
proper
but not prim.
Now
they have passed away.
The house
now in a shambles.
Everything changes
but rarely for the better.
But the white and green
metal awning is still in tact

i have learned three
things
for sure
the first is
whatever
is in front of me
is
and i
cannot change
the fact
that it exists
and is there
second
