Description

Tunnel of Light & Dark Pt II- Hidden Messages” is a continuation of my first poetry book “Tunnel of Light & Dark”. It is a deeper dive into childhood and teenage memories, and many moments that have impacted me that were not in the first book. I felt that it was important for me to write some of previous experiences from a different view point and from a more experienced age. Writing as an adult has helped me be even more authentic without holding back. When I was younger I would tend to write in the moment just to get things off my chest, and as an adult I am able to think things through more while writing. Having more thought during the process has helped my poetry be more creative and strong. I think that will help the reader feel more of the emotions I felt while writing. I have laughed, cried, felt frustrated, and more empathetic while writing this book. I am confident that the reader will be able to relate to my experiences on some level. I also hope that if they ever find themselves in a dark tunnel, that my book will inspire them to keep marching through it.

Three beds and two baths
Single wide on a small lot
A playground across the street
We didn’t need a lot
The place where I grew up
Where my mother raised us three
The fireplace lit up
Movies on the TV
I loved that old blue couch
And the table he made in shop
We hid the dirty dishes
By filling the oven with pots
We painted the shed one fall
Tan with sponged on leaves
We fought with buckets of acorns
That had fallen from the trees
You should have seen us on Halloween
We didn’t leave the park
We grabbed our pillowcases
And stayed out well past dark
It was our little home
In a peaceful town
Four walls filled with love
Our fort we held down
I could never count
How many times I’ve driven past
To remember where I come from
And make sure the memories last
Between the Trailer Parks
We walked through the woods
Like we were Huckleberry Finn
The trees began to whisper
While we all hid within
We would play in the pit
Slowly kids would appear
It was our own little world
A spot I held dear
We would gather and explore
Make our way to the back trees
To the unstable fort
That stood crooked in the tree
We would dare each other to climb it
The chickens would fall back
But we were the Sly ones
So, we braced for impact
The magical little moments
I remember them so clear
We didn’t know they were magic
Until the next generation appeared
