Chapter One
Introduction to the Sinclair’s
W illoughby Sinclair had just turned twenty seven this last July 20 th and was enjoying the rewards of tenor as an insurance investigator for Kansas City Life Insurance Company. He had gained substantial experience and retained knowledge in the field of tracking missing beneficiaries on life insurance policies held by his firm. He had enlisted the support of a high tech computer nerd by the name of Mike Cooper to enhance his skills in tracking down beneficiaries on the various poli cies.
Mike Cooper had befriended Willoughby and provided tutorial services on the use of computer programs available in the market place to improve his skills in the investigations he was assigned. Willoughby’s association with Mike Cooper was conducted outside his work involvement because he did not wish to share his secret alliance. Through Mike Cooper’s instructions Willoughby gained an education on skip traces and genealogy. The tools he was introduced to were Tracers Information, Lexis Nexis, and Social Security Death Index, wikitree.com, googletree.com and ancestry.com. Willoughby used these tools from home on his personal computer to ensure success on his assignments at work.
On the job Willoughby utilized social media such as face book, linkedin.com and others to perform his duties keeping his other sources a secret from all who would inquire into his success as an investigator. Willoughby maintained the highest success rating of 78% over all investigators looking for beneficiaries. The closest competition from other agents had a success rating of 56% which is not much better then chance. The odds are against an investigator to try to find a beneficiary who does not wish to be found. However, he knew that most beneficiaries are unaware of a policy held by a deceased family me mber.
All the investigators were informed that should their efforts prove unsuccessful the money from the insurance policy would revert back to the Treasury of the state where the policy was purchased. This inspired Willoughby to work harder at finding lost beneficiaries to keep the state from confiscating the funds. Another incentive was the additional compensation he earned on each successful investiga tion.
Willoughby invested wisely and purchased a home at White Oak Estates in Lenexa Kansas just a few short years after his marriage to Katherine Rogers on March 21, 2007. She had blessed him with a son Kevin Andrews Sinclair on April 26, 2008 and Willoughby became so attached to his young man that he took him everywhere he went except work. It was during these hours that Kevin was in preschool and feeling all grow n up.
Willoughby was very active in sports in his community and took Kevin to his softball games. He sat quietly in the bleachers with his mother on occasions and could be seen applauding with his tiny hands at every single pitch it seemed. The team from his neighborhood was called the White Oak Wonders and WOW was proudly displayed on their caps. Beside softball they were into volley ball. This last year Kevin was introduced to T-Ball and demonstrated his questionable skills on the field and at bat. He tried hard to be the athlete his father was but his skills would improve in time.
Within five years Willoughby was able to pay off the mortgage on his home through the extra payments on principle raised from bonus payments through his successful efforts at work. For the last year his only payments on his home were for the real estate tax and insurance. He was not one to borrow money and generally paid for their daily living expenses in cash. He owned credit cards for his travel; but always paid the balance upon receipt of the monthly invoice. His business expenses were reimbursed by his employer and on every excursion out of town he bought Kevin a souv enir.
Katherine started her career with The Mission Bank as a clerk in loan services but had recently been promoted to a loan officer. She was independent and shared Willoughby’s concern to be debt free. The concerns over their househol
