Preface
This book is a love story about a poverty stricken young couple who tries to take their family on a vacation before they wed. They experience a lot of miracles on their journey and by the time they are back in the US, their life has taken a completely different toll; a much more happy and rewarding experience that they never dreamed of .
Chapter 1
‘Whats Her Name Again Abel?!’
“M om, did you get to cook the food for Sophie and I like I asked you to!?
you mean you prepared the wrong thing again mother?” Abel was now upset at the short haired, brunette lady he called mom;
“you mean you forgot the beans and oxtail again!?” he seemed a bit worried now as he paced back and forth in the dainty little brick kitchen, that was too small for the three family members, including dad and himself.
“Mom,” he whispered softly, not wanting to upset the already flustered old lady who was beginning to have a melt down. She apologized for the misunderstanding and blurted out,
“I really wanted to put a smile on your face my son, buu” she came closer to him now and squeezed his cheeks as though he were still her little brown eyed baby boy,
“but you know what?” mom smiled halfheartedly now,
“I did the wrong thing again! I totally forgot and cooked beans and sauerkraut instead of beans and oxtail;
Where did you say shes from again son?
Did you say, Peru?” the small framed woman asked with a wry smile.
“Mom! mom! you did this stupidity on purpose, didn’t you?” he shook a menacing finger at his mom.
Immediately, dad came sauntering down the winding staircase and joined in the lively conversation.
“Your girl is from Arabia, isn’t she?” he grinned mischievously, drawing a chair for mom and himself.
Abel was visibly frustrated now, “no dad! shes from Jamaica! for the millionth time, shes Jamaican born, shes from Jamaica!!.”
Abel turned to his mother now with eager eyes,
“Oke mom, to make this easier, could we make something called ceveche, that’s her favorite food,
I could help you”, her adult son offered, reaching over the table and hugging the elderly lady close to his stomach so that she struggled to keep up her balance;
“we can do it together mom,” he said as he glanced at his cheap, tick tack watch and exclaimed loudly,
“shes supposed to be here at 3:pm; lets see, we have two more hours to go mom, lets go, chap, chap,” he clapped his hand tentatively as he checked his watch, “it should be fun between us three.”
“Whats her name again Abel?” dad inquired playfully and insensitively from across the table, stroking his long gray beard.
“Dad?” Abel was slightly a bit irritated with him now,
“Dad, I said Sophia! for the thousandth time dad, Sophia,
Dad you mean you cant remember one girls name?!”
Mom seemed to be in a great haste now to get this chore completed as she retied her white polka dot apron with scrawny arms, around her waist, “can we start already?” she pleaded, with big, inquiring eyes”
“OK, whats this Cerveche all about?,” dad wanted to know with trembling arms.
Abel responded with a smile in his eyes, “dad, its made of onions, limes, chilli; and mom do you have fish in the refrigerator?” Abel asked with wide, inquisitive eyes.
“Yes son, but you should look in the small refrigerator, not the tall one,” she grinned mischievously as he slammed the refrigerator door shut.
“Lets go!” dad said, as his big brown eyes became wider now. “I can slice the lemons, ooh! them are sour” he said as he rubbed half of lemon across his tongue.

All of a sudden, there was a pronounced knock on the front door and Abel untied his, ‘his & hers’ apron and glanced at the big Ben clock on the wall; he sauntered off with a moon walk across the lintel floor to answer the door bell.
Abel glanced at the mirror on the wall and redid his neck tie, then he wiped ketchup off his beard.
A yell came bounding from the kitchen now, it was dad.
“Its almost time but not exactly time yet, I don’t think that’s her.”
Abel placed his hand gingerly on the door knob and smiled sheepishly back at mom, trying to hide his overwhelming happiness as he fixed his neck tie once more---“one, two, three, tadaa!! hello my little Sophie kitten!”
He opened his eyes wide in confusion and muttered,
“your not my little Sophie! Who are you then?” his head shook from side to side in bewilderment, “just who are you, for certain your not my babe, so who are you sir?
I thought you were my little poo bear,” he kept repeating himself as his face became red with embarrassment;
“But you are a man!.
Were you expecting anyone mom?,” he called back into the kitchen frustrated.
“Are you dad? are you expecting anyone?
Mom! Its not my precious Sophie kitten!!”
Mom came rushing to the door: “who is it then?”
“I don’t know mother!,” Abel confessed sheepishly.
“So you aren’t going to tell us who you are?”
Abel pleaded almost on the verge of tears to the stranger: “im afraid if you don’t fess up we will have to close the door, cos were awfully busy. My Jamaican fiancee is coming in a little bit and we have to finish dinner”, he said hastily.
The strangers booming voice resounded,
“Oh so you wanna know who it is, are you very sure? take a wild guess?” the stranger asked grinning from ear to ear.
“Well, well, for the life of me I dont know who you are!”Abel kept saying.
Mom and dad stood confused in the kitchen,
“Who is it son, yes! tell us who it is, don’t keep us in such suspense?”.
The stranger spun around like a happy little puppy and did a little antic,
“do you like this?” the person said with a weird growl leaning forward with his hand on a cane now,
“I said how do you like this?” the stranger repeated annoyingly:
“bu-bu-but I don’t know how to evaluate you, cos I don’t even know who you are”.
“Come on, tell us who you are” dad said, moon walking across to the front door,
“who are you friend? please tell us”
“Oh Abel if its not her then who is it?,” mom called out from the kitchen annoyed, “come on stranger, stop playing, we have work to do, Sophie is coming in, what”, she glanced at the clock on the wall, “shes coming in two hours and we need to finish this cerveche thingy, if you stay your welcome to some, were preparing enough; so are you going to tell us who you are or naw?!”
