CHAPTER ONE
Elizabeth
I can tell you I have to pinch myself to be sure this last year has not just been a dream. I’m a bit reticent to tell others it at all. Even for me it all just seems a bit surreal. But I will try and tell you because you are all my fellow believers and friends and have known something of my struggles in life.
It all started over a year ago. Zechariah and I were going about our lives just like you, knowing our God but feeling despondent, we had to admit. We just didn’t feel blessed, what with the Romans and all that, plus Zechariah came home often disillusioned with the unbelief, and legalism, of many of his fellow priests. Especially those at the top. Politics and power seemed to be what drove them! Nothing would ever change as far as he could see.
Also, as you know we had always hoped for a family. One of the blessings of God is for a woman to have children. I had always hoped for a boy and others had said have faith. God will provide. By now I realized it was just not my lot. I had to be real, I was well past the age where that was going to happen.
Then……. then it happened. You probably have heard the gossip. Well, it is true, most of it anyway. Unbelievable really. My husband you see drew the lot to go into the inner sanctuary and there he had this encounter, I guess you’d say, with an angel. Blew him away, sort of thing we had read about but guess never entered our head would happen to us. Wow. Totally took him by surprise, as you could imagine. What was even more freaky
