Description

In 1965 strange things happened on the largest of three small islands that were adjacent to Vinton-le-dale which is a small fishing village on the west coast, it's nestled into the hillside and surrounded by craggy rocks with sheer drops of several hundred feet.
Loud banging sounds and extremely bright flashing lights were seen and heard by the village’s oldest inhabitant Albert Trench, later after four men took a boat ride to the islands to investigate they are astounded with their findings. A silver alien ship takes off and then it circles all three islands twice then with a whooshing sound it lifted another few feet and with tremendous acceleration it shot across the sky diagonally, and in a split second disappeared into the low cloud formation and vanished from their sight as quick as you could click your fingers.
Bloody hell that’s fast isn’t it? Jim stood up his eyes were fixed on the place where the ship had been, I’ve never seen anything like it in my life before, neither have we the three other men said one after the other.

Prologue
In a small fishing village in the mid 60’s it was just another ordinary day, some fisherman were still out in their boats casting their nets. Today however something very different happened, old Albert pottered down the street; something caught his eye so he stood and stared out to sea. There were 3 small islands that were inhabited only by birds and the odd stray sea lion; loud banging sounds and extremely bright flashing lights were coming from the islands. Albert hurried to a near-by house to alert the occupants, he was distressed and in a panic.
What were those noises and those flashing lights never had he seen lights so bright before. At his request the owner goes down to the jetty with him to try and discover what is the matter. Eventually a meeting is held at the boat yard and all the villagers are alerted of a potential danger. Four men take a boat ride to investigate what’s behind the strange noises and the flashing lights. But can they do anything about it.
All may well be lost; who or what is there on the islands? Why have they come? What do they want? All these questions will soon be answered.
All the characters and events in this book are fictional if any persons depicted bare any such resemblance to anyone either alive or deceased then it is purely coincidental, it is not my intention to upset or offend any such person or persons. Whilst endeavouring to bring you first class entertainment and value for money I have indeed brought to life these characters and the drama which surrounds them. The story and its bizarre events and countless details will I hope help you to understand what is in the mind of each individual person at any given moment in time.

The Beginning

The year 1965 the place Vinton Le Dale on the West Coast, it’s a small fishing village nestled into the hillside and overlooked by craggy rocks with sheer drops of several hundred feet on each side. Looking out from the top of the rocks the view is tremendous. Three small islands are visible protruding from the sea like scales on the back of a prehistoric animal. It’s a beautiful autumn evening the sun glints over the Ocean casting a shadow across the three islands, there silhouettes shimmer in the setting sun. Seagulls are flying overhead screeching with excitement as they swoop down picking fish from the ice cold water. Albert Trench an elderly gentleman and one of the village’s oldest inhabitants is taking a stroll down by the jetty. Suddenly something catches his eye, a flash of light as if it were the light from a passing ship or even a lighthouse.
He squints as he looks towards the light; again it came but that one was a blinding flash which blurred his vision. Uh what the hell was that? He mumbles, Albert stands for a moment and stares at the islands protecting his eyes from the glare with one hand, something was happening over there but what no-one ever went there the only living things on the islands were birds, plants and maybe the odd sea lion if it were lost and off course. Strange noises started to emerge; Albert was distressed about the activity, so distressed that he set off with haste to alert the others. He limped down to the cottage which was the nearest to where he was standing about 50 yards in all knowing full well that Jim Harris his wife Mavis and their two sons Fred and Harry would be in. Albert knocked rapidly at their door it was answered in an instant, hello there Albert what brings you round this fine evening? Come quick and take a look Jim, Albert spurted with a quivering voice. What’s wrong Albert? Come on Jim no time he answered as he hurried away before Jim even got his boots on. What is it Dad? Shouted Fred who was standing in the kitchen doorway, dunno son something’s wrong with poor old Albert his Dad replied.
Jim caught up with Albert a few minutes later he was now standing back at the edge of the jetty looking out towards the islands. What’s up Albert? Listen Jim, Albert stared at the islands once more, his face had worry and alarm written all over it. Look there did you see it, see what? Said Jim with a laugh he was gazing out to sea but he saw nothing, the islands, the islands look at the islands Jim said Albert waving his walking stick furiously in the air. Fred and Harry came running down the jetty towards them both what’s going on Dad? They both shouted. Shh said Albert just keep your eyes fixed on those islands for a minute then you’ll see what I mean. They all stared in amazement as several lights flashed they were followed by echoing bangs that rang out through all three islands and straight towards their village, the lights and the banging sounds became more frequent and more intense. Jim was astonished he didn’t know what to make of it so he said with a commanding voice Albert, Fred, Harry come on let’s get you all inside now.
Back inside Jim’s cottage Mavis made them all a nice cup of tea she was welsh and still had a very pronounced welsh twang in her voice, whatever is the matter with you lot? Jim you’re as white as a sheet what’s wrong love? I’m not sure what it is that we all just saw and heard Mavis but I don’t like it and I think to be on the safe side we’d better alert the rest of the villagers. Jim was obviously worried about something because in the 25 years that he’d been married to Mavis he’d never wanted to alert the whole village about anything before. You’re frightening me Jim, I’m sorry love but we’ve seen some blinding flashing lights and we’ve heard strange noises coming from the islands.
We don’t know what it is and I don’t want anyone going out fishing until we can uncover the mystery. Too right said Albert, right lads can you two go round and alert everyone in the village for me you can tell them that I am calling a meeting and tell them that it involves all of us will you.
Ok Dad the boys answered together as they walked towards the door. Jim followed them keep it as quiet as possible lads tell them not to get alarmed I’ll meet them all at the boat yard in let’s say 20 minutes now off you go and remember keep it quiet, we will Dad they both replied at the same time once again. Jim, Mavis and Albert drank their tea and had a biscuit; Albert was visibly shaken, are you alright? Asked Mavis, I’ll be fine thanks love he replied but I think we ought to get down to the boat yard don’t you Jim you’ve called for this meeting so we’d all better be there first don’t you think? Yep I reckon so Albert, are you coming too Mavis? Of course I’m coming Mavis shouted from the kitchen just hang on a minute while I get my coat.
They were the first to arrive at the boat yard then a few minutes later the others started to appear, it took another 15 minutes before all of them arrived with confused looks on their faces. Come on Jim what the hell’s going on shouted Barry Hinchcliffe he was one of the village’s best fishermen. Alright now calm down and keep it quiet I’ve something important to say to all of you. Well get on with it then a voice shouted out this was the un-mistakable voice of John Bright he was the village idiot everyone knew him only too well because he would shout at anything or anybody no matter where he was he wasn’t quite all there, or as Jim constantly said he was 3 sheets to the wind.
John had been born with brain damage and as a direct result he didn’t know what he was doing half the time, only 3 months before hand he’d been barred from going into town by the police it was only 12 miles away but after his last escapade he was told to stay in his own village, he’d run amuck in the town causing mayhem where ever he went all because someone called him a half wit. He’d caused several thousand pounds worth of damage; he was a real nice lad really only 22 but his temper was uncontrollable.
Settle down now you lot, Jim was trying to keep a lid on it for now. Right we’ve heard strange noises and have seen flashing lights coming from the islands, who’s we? Asked Barry, well there was Albert who brought it to my attention then me and my lads have seen and heard it too explained Jim. What are we going to do
