Description

Like Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers, The Harlot's Hero brings the story of Leslie's fall from grace to the loving arms of God and true love.
Outgoing and flirty, Leslie Jones was boy crazy from the minute she hit puberty. But when she fell for Harold the tall, blonde drummer during summer camp, her heart was hooked. Leslie ignored the warning signs and advice from her lifelong friends, turning her summer romance into a whirlwind of bad choices. With those choices came consequences she would face alone, afraid for her safety and her child. The wide-eyed girl had turned her back on family and God for this man. A man that said he loved her by selling her body, mind, and soul to the highest bidder. Nevertheless, it was God she would call to send her a way of escape. He needed to send her a hero.
Rebellious Daniel Armstrong had game with the girls and on the football field. He was handsome, intelligent, and wealthy, well-his family was wealthy. Daniel was doted on by his mother while never good enough for his father. Wanting to get the attention he craved, Daniel got in trouble with the law and sent to a foster home. Momma Mabel’s tough love and Christ-centered home pushed him to do his best, though he still made wrong choices. Then he met his college roomy Harold Gibson who gave him a way to make his own money until one night when he saw the most beautiful girl. She was petite, with long brown hair and eyes full of sadness; Daniel knew it was Harold’s doing. But how could he save her and others like her, and not risk his own life to do it? If only he could be a superhero.

_________________________________________
Since Leslie was a youing girl she was brought up in church and knew God's way of salvation, but all it took was a goodlooking blonde drummer at youth camp to turn her innocence to sin. How would she get out of the choices she had made or the control Harold had over her? Would God even answer her prayers for a hero after all the shameful events she had succumbed to participating in by her own husband? Leslie hadn't seen her family in such a long time; her parents would be so in love with their grandson Jenson, if Leslie was allowed to visit. How could her husband hold their child as blackmail to make Leslie do these unspeakable acts with other men? Not knowing if God would answer a harlot as she was, Leslie asked for a way to escape Harold's grasp along with her son. Then came Daniel.

Prelude

To my sons:
Each one of you are unique and hold a special place in my heart. You will never know how much I love you, even on those days you didn’t think so, or thought I loved another brother more-each son is precious and irreplaceable. To my oldest John (J.W.) my first and tiniest, the miracle baby, blue eyed toe-head Alpha male, willing to help raise another man’s children as his own; To Benjamin, who loved to cuddle as a toddler, never met a stranger, and believes God’s love is shown by sacrificing your needs to give to others; To Jacob, my 10 months pregnant, chickenpox baby, you might have made choices I didn’t like but you strive to be a better man each day; To Seth, my only redhaired boy, whom the doctor said would be deaf, but God proved them wrong, soft-spoken with the patience of Job as you took care of your grandmother in her last months; To Enoch, the friendliest child ever, definitely lived up to your name’s meaning “Friendly companion”, you remind me to not take a day for granted and live with a purpose to make others smile; To Bobby, though you came into my world as my grandson, you became my son in a matter of weeks, our lives were turned upside down and plans changed, I can’t wait to see the man you become.
Different, but the same…Each a hero in his own right:
JW-Batman
Ben-Thor
Jacob-Hulk
Seth-One Punch Man
Enoch-Spiderman
Bobby- Captain America
Jeremiah 1:5 “ “ Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.”
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
God has a purpose and plan for your life; I can’t wait to see how He does it.
I love you!.

But those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
Isaiah 40:31
Prologue
The chills that ran down her back made the anticipation quicken her heartbeat. She tried to keep the baby quiet, but he didn’t want to hear the excuses.
“What kind of mother are you when you can’t even shut the kid up? Worthless, that’s it! I should have known you would bring me mountains of trouble when you were so gullible. Now look at you; you make me taste bile.”
“Harold, I love you! I love our son. He only wants to be cuddled. If you would stop yelling, Jenson would fall back to sleep. Let me rock him for a few minutes; it soothes him.”
“Do you ever listen? Do not touch that brat! Let someone else get him to sleep. Go downstairs and make yourself useful. By the time you attract another paying client, maybe the kid will wear himself out. Can’t have a whimpering baby in the room next door while a man is trying to get his jollies.”
“It would happen a lot faster if you just…”
Wham! The back of his hand popped her head right at her ear. She lost her equilibrium for a minute. He had caught her off guard again. She tripped over the shoes he had taken off, falling onto the tile floor in the bathroom.
“God, how clumsy can you be? Get up and go make me some money. You want to buy your baby clothes and diapers, well then, guess you better work away my troubles for getting you knocked up.”
Leslie could barely put weight on her hand to stand up. A sprained wrist is what it felt like. God knew she had them before. There was no reason to complain to Harold, her husband never took her to the clinic after an “accident”. Why would he start now?
LESLIE JONES GIBSON
Chapter 1
“M A, WHY CAN’T I GO with Obediah and Zeph to Bo’s ranch? I can help Cousin Cecil, too. I’m big enough, I ain’t that little no more. Cause I’m in first grade. Mrs. Sutter done said I was a big boy for I’z the tallest in my class.”
“Jonah Micah Jones, don’t you go trying to be all smarty britches on your ma, ya hear? I already told ya’, ya’ ain’t going with your brothers. Obediah is grown about to join the army and Zephaniah is impending his seventeenth birthday. Naw, you, Bean Sprout, will do as I say.”
“One day I’m gonna be bigger than all my brothers and sisters. I’m tired being one of the littlest Jones. I can’t do nothin’. You wait; I’m gonna be some hotsy, totsy, businessman and move from this old stinking chicken farm.”
Laughing with her hands on her hips, Ma retorted, “Better watch what you say, Sprout, you might eat those words one day. Being all grown up ain’t all it’s cracked up to be. Jonah, money isn’t everything.”
“I know, ‘money is the root of all evil’. Not like I hadn’t heard that one from the old preacher.” He rolled his eyes and sighed.
“The correct quote is ‘the love of money is the root of all evil’. And I am Not an old preacher, Jonah. I would think you would call me ‘wise beyond my years’.” Picking Jonah up and putting him on his shoulders, “So what you doing hanging around your ma in the kitchen, getting’ underfoot? I don’t smell a chocolate cake in the oven.”
“Pa, I wanted to go with Obediah and Zeph to help Cousin Cecil at Bo’s cattle ranch. They told me I was too little. When do I get to have all the fun?”
“It will happen sooner than your ma and I gonna want it. Oh, Elder John and Sister Laura pulled in. Why don’t you go outside and show Mia the new chicks that hatched last week? Tell her ma to come inside to visit with your ma. Let Elder John know I’ll meet him out at the stables in a bit. Run on.”
With a pop on his bottom by his pa, and his pastor, he slowly made his way to the front door but turning Jonah called back, “I don’t know why I have to play with ole’ Mia. She’s got cooties. Can’t Eve or Mara, they’re girls?”
“Jonah, now!”
Pa’s footsteps were heard coming toward the living room, which put fire under Jonah’s feet, and he bolted out the front door.
“Morning, Elder John, Sister Laura. Pa said he’d meet ya at the stable in a minute and Ma’s waiting fer you in the kitchen. I’m supposed to take Mia to see the baby chicks.”
“Why, that’s might nice of you, Jonah. You are quite the gentleman. Mia, come on, take Jonah’s hand. He’s gonna let you see his baby chickens. Ain’t that sweet?” Sister Laura released Mia’s hand and she came running over.
And the dark-haired China doll took his hand with her itty bitty one. Jonah froze. Her hair was in two pigtails hanging down on each side of her head. She had on this pink sundress with white flowers along the bottom. Jonah was about to yank his hand away, when he glanced at her with his perifocal vision. Mia looked up with sparkling eyes and gave a grand smile right at him. Her cheeks were flushed, and those eyelashes were dark and long. It took Jonah a second to remember what he had been planning on saying to the leech.
“Jonah, did a whale swallow you like Sister Louise told us in Sunday School? I wouldn’t wanna be in no whale’s tummy. That’d be yucky.”
“No, silly. Sister Louise was talking about the Jonah in the Bible. Not me at all. Don’t worry, no whale’s here in Phil Campbell, Alabama. I never saw one at the creek once. Come on, I’ll help you over the yard to where we got the chicks. You’re fixin’ to see the best part of chicken farming.”
Mia held tight to Jonah’s hand as he went into the building where the unhatched eggs were and the newborn chicks. It was warm with the heat
