His son runs into the killer and befriends the killer without knowing he is the killer. When he finds out, he’s forced to make ???
One afternoon Clarence was playing with his two-year-old son named Scout. He was teaching his son how to catch, a football when the mailman approached him with a letter. Clarence opened the letter and began to read it. He noticed that it was from the military and it said that he was being drafted.
His life flashed before his eyes. He started to cry.
His son asked, “Why are you crying?”
Clarence hugged his son tightly and said, “Daddy has to go away for a while.” He told his son he loved him and he picked his son up and carried him into the house.
Clarence walked up to his wife to tell her he loved her and he was being drafted to fight in Vietnam. His wife’s name was Kim. She cried out, “Why do you have to leave me?”
He told her that when you love our country you must do what’s right. He was raised up in church and always put God first and country second. Kim told him, “You can’t leave me and your son. You might not come back. I can’t raise Scout by myself, you can’t leave us.” Clarence kissed Kim and told her he must do what’s right.
A few weeks went by and Clarence turned himself in to the military. He was only 21 and had no idea what he was about to go through. A white man greeted him and told him, “Welcome to the Army.”
He gave Clarence clothes and a cover and pillow and told him, “I will show you the infantry.” Clarence asked, “What is the infantry?”
The soldier told him, “Infantry is the general branch of an army that engages in military combat on foot. You will be in training tomorrow so you need to rest.” He slept in a large tent with other soldiers.
The following day Clarence was sleeping when the sergeant entered the tent and started yelling at the soldiers, “Get up, you lazy soldiers.” He then said, “Attention.” All the soldiers stood on their feet.
The sergeant yelled out, “My name is Ivan and I am your sergeant and you will be trained for the next couple of weeks and we are going to train you on digging a fox hole.”
Clarence asked, “Ivan, why do we need to know how to dig a hole?”
The sergeant got upset, yelling at Clarence, getting into his face, and asking him, “Do you want to get your head blown off?” As Ivan left the tent, one of the soldiers yelled out, “What an asshole.” Everybody laughed. They exercised that day and ate.
The next morning Ivan entered the tent with a bucket of cold water and poured cold water on Clarence. Meanwhile all the soldiers slept until they heard the commotion, then they all stood up. Clarence asked, “Why did you pour your water on me?”
Ivan replied, telling him, “To keep you alert boy” and “I don’t like black people so stay out of my way.” Then Ivan left the tent. A soldier approached Clarence, telling him, “All white people are not like that and I am sorry you had to deal with that.
