It is a wonderful illustrated picture book that depicts a poor Mexican girl named Yuyi and her search for a special Christmas tree. This family story discusses la Rama, a tradition that is practiced in the southern part of Mexico. Judith Mervis (Pantoja) wrote this book to entertain children and make people feel the way the book’s characters feel in their small, southern town in Mexico during Christmas time. This realistic (though fictitious) story invites us to join in on a fun adventure focusing on the Mexican tradition of singing “la Rama,” whereby children and adults enjoy singing traditional Christmas rhymes door to door before Christmas. In this story, Yuyi decides to buy a Christmas tree after collecting money singing “la Rama,” since her parents are too poor to afford it. Will she be able to get the Christmas tree that she wants?
Es un libro de ilustraciones que se trata de una niña mexicana pobre llamada Yuyi y su búsqueda por un árbol de navidad. Este cuento familiar discute la rama, una tradición que se practica en el sureste de México. Judith Mervis (Pantoja) escribió este libro para entretener a los niños y hacer al lector sentir como los personajes en este cuento, en un pequeño pueblo al sureste de México.
Este cuento de fi cción realista invita a disfrutar de una aventura enfocándose en una tradición Mexicana que es cantar la rama. Los niños y adultos disfrutan cantar estas rimas casa por casa justo antes de navidad. En este cuento Yuyi decide comprar un árbol de navidad con el dinero que gana después de cantar la rama ya que sus padres son muy pobres y no pueden comprar uno. ¿Podrá Yuyi comprar el árbol de navidad que tanto quiere?
