ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
M y kids are everything to me. They are my reason for my sanity and they are my inspirations. Anthony, Keith, Alena & Katelyn has many adventures and stories to tell and my mind explodes with ideas whenever they animatedly recount their day. Their feedbacks are sincere and welcomed whenever I ask.
To my brother, John Espiritu, for always making me laugh every time when we get together. You are my baby brother and a best friend I can always count on.
To Joanne Etrata, you challenged me, and I have you to thank for giving me that push. I am writing because of the challenge. If it wasn’t for that challenge, I wouldn’t have gone through the pain and stress. Thanks!
To my best friends, Vicky Garcia and Ericka Escalante, thank you for listening and helping me cope, even if I don’t say anything about my problems. You two were just there, and that was enough for me.
To Sarika Chea, you made me smile whenever I didn’t feel like it, thank you for reading tidbits of my work and giving me some views when my mind is blocked.

PREFACE
S acrifice my life to save the one I hold in my heart?
Save my life to save another?
There is a reason for everything that we do. Choose the one you’re meant to choose and your destiny will be revealed. Choose the other and that becomes your faith.
Everything is a risk, but there is understanding to what we do for the ones we cleave in our souls.
So which one should I choose if both are my destiny?

CHAPTER 1
Blocked
H ave you ever experienced something miraculous that left you bewildered, but would shake away the impossible and would never think of it twice for reasons that your heart is now filled with hope?
Our minds would never let us see, but we know it happened, from the warmth that emanates around us, strengthening our beliefs.
My eyes had opened to things I have never wondered about but left me questioning. I was told to widen my heart, for when it does, I will comprehend further beyond the truth.
I could never go back. My heart will not stop the things I deemed implausible, no matter how complicated it becomes. It’s a part of me now and every single day for the past year it had grown stronger within me. My soul.
Life is a complication. Life is unreasonably short, but life is what we believe in. It is the reason why I’m fighting. It’s my justification why I’m trying to live so hard in finding what I was meant to do . . .
My heart was threatening to rip out of my chest as it beat furiously. My forehead felt clammy from the sweat that rolled down.
My eyes snapped opened at the buzzing sound next to my bed. I breathed in deeply and pressed the off button on the alarm clock.
It was time to wake up.
I tried to control myself; Another nightmare and I was glad to wake from it, but I was also frustrated.
My head automatically turned to the window as lightening flashed across the sky. It was June, but the sun has hidden itself behind the gray clouds. The wind made the trees oscillate and it threatened to rain. This is not a normal weather for Survine.
Survine is a small town in Washington, a few hours near Seattle, isolated and surrounded by old trees, mountains and wilderness. The hidden town. Survine did have its occasional rain falls during the summer, but for the past week it had been torrential.
I got off the bed and ambled to my bathroom. As I brushed my teeth I stared at myself in the mirror. It looks like me, with long caramel-colored hair, fair complexion and a unique eye color—emerald-like with a ring of glimmering gold that circled around the outer part of the iris—but it’s not me. Not anymore. I’m different from the girl in the mirror. I felt much older and wearier, wiser even.
I use to have a subtle perspective about our world and the things around us, but now I have seen what’s truly out there.
I sighed, and went to my closet to pick out an outfit, not really interested in how I looked in them. Then I sauntered down the stairs to the kitchen where I heard my family. It wasn’t a surprise to see all of them there. All eleven family. There was a secret there that I learned just recently.
My family is the ancient sentry called the Protectors. They are so called because their ancestors were chosen to be part of the thirteen; They were chosen for their nobility and their will. But there always has to be thirteen, and only God knows why. The Protectors had a purpose in this world and they were given powers to act on that duty—they are responsible for the protection of a very essential heir.
A year ago I believed people having powers were something from a movie, but as I learned the truth it was not only plausible, but real.
But the Protectors were not the only one who had great powers. As their abilities were given and their ancestors were chosen, I was born to it. The powers I have are mundane, although I have no knowledge to the reason behind it. Knowing all these really does exist didn’t frightened me, I was only confused that it did. The moment I learned about it my mind welcomed it. Maybe my brain had always known, but my eyes were just obstinate to see what’s truly out there.
When I learned the truth about my adopted family’s secret, I assumed my real parents had been one of the Protectors. Daryn Matthew, my adopted father and the chosen leader of the sentry, told me that my father was part of it, but it was just a lie. In the end the Protectors informed me he abandoned me. It disheartened and left me depressed. I wasn’t quite sure if he was alive or dead. I could care less where he is. All I know is that I have no recollection of me . I don’t know why I have powers or why it was stronger than any others. Or why I was part of this.
I got myself orange juice from the fridge and went next to Daryn at the breakfast table. Courtney Evans, Bradley Dawson, Kendra Hart and Corey Whitman weren’t there. It was crowded in the kitchen and they probably escaped to the pool house in the back. It’s what we do to keep sane these days.
“Is Damien back?” I asked Daryn.
Damien is the very reason the Protectors exists. Damien is the Guardian. Guardians are the most important souls in this world. In this world of ours people believed in miracles despite the corruptions and the ominous threats, and it was due to the fact that the Guardians created them and left hope and faith in their hearts that was once didn’t believe.
Damien had been trapped in a realm called the Inescapable Realm for nearly eighteen years. Damien couldn’t escape by himself, but he did because of me and my powers.
It was a shock to me that other world exists, and there were many of them. I didn’t realize how big the universe is, or that everything I thought wasn’t true, exists.
“He came back a couple hours ago, but left again,” Daryn answered.
I nodded slightly.
My powers allows me to hear the prayers and cries for help just as Damien does, and since he was the only one powerful enough to leave faith in the heart of the despaired, it was his obligation to go and save them. And from all the cries I hear, many needs miracles.
I rose from the table and walked out to the backyard. But before I stepped out I caught sight of Brittany Whitman and Tanya Wells near the kitchen island, both had red-rimmed eyes.
Brittany and Tanya were the wives of the late Andrew Whitman and Timothy Wells. They had been murdered by the sycophant of the Guardian’s enemy; Xalgor.
I clenched my jaw and turned, fighting for control.
The wind blew at my face and whipped my hair instantly as I stepped out of the warmth and safety of the house.
I rushed to the pool house. Most of the newly acclaimed Protectors
