KayLoni
“Shh, Mr. Man,” I cooed as I laid AB Junior down.
We had been adjusting to home life pretty well. Only issue we had was that he was a little small, which he didn’t get from me.
I left him sleeping in his crib and dimmed the light. When I went downstairs, A’Blesson was standing over the sink washing bottles. Bae had really come through for me with taking care of his son. I was so happy he was with me and not just laying around. He actually did shit that I needed help with. Once all my help from my mother and Florida Ann was gone, it was me and A’Blesson left to get this parenting shit down pat. So far, so good. A’Blesson doesn’t even go out the house unless it was a major issue. Israel was able to keep things afloat, and I was glad I was able to have my man there.
“Thanks, baby. I was going to clean them once I got Mr. Man to sleep,” I told him.
“Nah, I got it, bae,” he told me and leaned down to kiss me.
I was still on my six weeks, but it was nothing to us. We just spent ample time with our son getting to know him.
While A’Blesson cleaned the bottles, I went ahead to the mailbox to get the mail. A’Blesson usually gets it whenever he come in, but he hadn’t left the house in a few days. I got the mail, and on my way inside, I saw that I had a bill from the hospital. Since A’Blesson had already paid for my stay and the care of our son, I was confused. I ripped the piece of mail open and saw a balance for A’Blesson Junior.
“Bae! Didn’t you pay that hospital bill?” I asked A’Blesson as soon as I came in the house.
“Yeah, bae. I got the confirmation number and receipt sent to your email remember?” he yelled back.
He was still in the kitchen washing bottles. I went to the living room and called the number on the bill. Once I got a hold of somebody, I let them know my bill had been paid already.
“Ma’am, can you tell me the date and name again because I have my receipt right here,” I told the lady over the phone.
I was getting annoyed with her ass and ready to go off on them for sending me two bills.
“A’Blesson Anderson II,” she continued. I frowned when she referred to my baby as a she and not a he .
“Excuse me, I had a little boy,” I corrected.
“Our records state a girl,” she replied.
As she got to talking more, I realized that whoever baby this was with Blesson’s full name wasn’t my damn baby at all. It was born before mine and was a little girl.
“Well, I had a little boy, and I got the birth certificate and the dick to prove it,” I snapped. “Now take this shit off my name because that ain’t my baby!”
I was shaking with anger because the lady went in their system, and sure enough, I was right. They mailed me some other bitch’s bill because our kids had the exact same name. We had our babies at the same hospital and all. She just had her daughter before me. When I finally got off the phone and they apologized, I went to the kitchen to show A’Blesson. I stayed calm and tried not to go near any sharp objects. I knew his last name was common in St. Louis, but not his whole fucking name. Ain’t no bitch accidentally do that.
“You see this?” I told him, showing him the paper.
I held it up so he could see. He held the other side of the paper reading it. My heart rate sped up, and I could feel myself about to go the hell off. Before A’Blesson lifted his head up to say ANYTHING, I slapped him so damn hard with that paper dead in his face.
He stumbled back.
“YOU GOT ANOTHER BITCH PREGNANT, AND THIS HOW I FIND OUT!”
I picked up everything I could, knocking this nigga all up in the head. I was full of rage because his ass got hit with full cans of baby formula, and that shit went everywhere, fucking up my clean kitchen. I didn’t care, though. A’Blesson didn’t have to play me like that. He was dead wrong, so I wasn’t sorry for beating his ass!

“So, where you been getting this money from?” I asked Na’Esha.
I knew KayLoni’s shop wasn’t paying her that well, and Shalom wasn’t kicking her that type of cash to her for tutoring. I knew that quick money when I saw it because I had gotten it for a long time.
“Bea, please don’t say nothing,” she pleaded.
“You stripping? Nooo, Esha. No! As your big sis, I can tell you that you don’t need to be stripping. Your brothers are going to kill you if they find out,” I told her straight up.
“They won’t find out,” she reasoned. “Only if you tell ’em.”
“Don’t do that, Esha. I would never back you in a corner like that when it comes to your family. Me and Israel have enough problems with trust issues. That’s the last thing he needs to know I kept from him,” I vented.
Before I could go on about how fucked up shit was with me and Israel, there was fucking banging at the front door. I quickly got up from the couch to see who it was. Israel was gone handling business at the club, so I had Aubrey with me so she could play with Jezeel.
“Yes, may I help you?” I asked.
“We are here from the social services department. Is an Israel Townsend in?”
I was confused on who these people all dressed up in suits were. They flashed badges and shoved papers in my face. I read over the paper and saw that they wanted to remove Aubrey from Israel’s home. I was taken aback and confused.
“What’s your name, and who sent you?”
I was more than lost, and so was Na’Esha when she came to the door. The people went on to explain that they were there on behalf of social services, and if I didn’t cooperate, they would have the police called to remove Aubrey.
“Is all that even necessary? Like, why is she even being removed?” I implored, wanting some answers before I simply gave Aubrey to them.
She was just getting settled in with us, and I felt all wrong for having this conversation. I wished like hell that Israel was there. I had Na’Esha call her brother, but his ass was not answering. I was growing stressed because social services was not leaving, and they wasn’t leaving without Aubrey.
“Y’all just gon’ have to call the police because her dad is not answering, and I refuse to give over his child,” I told them.
They went back to their car and made the call. By this time, Aubrey and Jezeel were wondering what was going on. Once I heard the police squad car pull up, I knelt eye level to Aubrey.
“Look, you have to go with that woman over there, but I promise—”
“Nooooo,” Aubrey cried. “Don’t send me to the bad people. I be good! I BE GOOD THIS TIME!”
“Shhh, calm down, baby. Aubrey, look at me! Your dad is going to come get you as soon as he can,” I told her and she broke down crying.
I hugged her tight, and she refused to let me go. Na’Esha was standing frozen because there was nothing we could do at this point. The police were demanding that we hand Aubrey over.
“Excuse me, ma’am, you have to hand over the little girl now,” the officer spoke.
I looked in his face then down at Aubrey. She was talking into my chest, not wanting to go.
“Tiphani, don’t let them take me! I be really good! Just don’t let them take me back,” Aubrey cried. “I want Daddy! I want my Daddy!”
The police officer grabbed Aubrey, and for a minute, I didn’t let her go. I couldn't. I broke down crying once the officer had her. Aubrey fought hard and ran back into my arms and tried to close the door on the officer that was on her heels. Na’Esha cussed the officer out for gripping on Aubrey roughly, and so did I.
“Aubrey, we coming to get you,” I promised.
“They never going to let me go again,” Aubrey cried.
Na’Esha got Aubrey out of my arms this time so the police wouldn’t manhandle her niece. I cried like a baby watching Aubrey fight to stay. I stood in the doorway while she was carri
